Mullan seemed at his best when facing the rim and getting downhill. He had a knack for drawing fouls on physical straight line drives to the rim. Mullan did this from both the wing and the baseline. He was active around the rim and able to pick up put back buckets. Mullan looked solid as a passer and was able to advance the ball quickly up the floor with the pass.
