Expert Analysis

The Detroit Mercy commit showcased his silky smooth two way game in their blowout win of Dayton Dunbar. Cotton had 9 threes and is someone who needs to be respected from behind the arc and a threat to get hot from there quickly. He was able to cruise to different spots off the bounce. Cotton scored tough buckets and converted some chances that made the crowd ooh an aah. He had a game high 40 points. Cotton was able to hunt shots effortlessly in the flow of the game. His length allows him to cover ground and block shots and collect rebound with ease. His versatility should allow him to fight for minutes as a freshman in college.

Cotton had battled injuries during his Junior season and it was great to see him back healthy and on the court moving and looking like himself. Knocking down numerous shots off the catch thanks to drive and kicks from his teammates, Cotton was shot-ready off the catch. Add in a couple cuts and finishes plus some throw ahead passes off steals and rebounds and Cotton was highly impactful on Monday in Lima Senior’s statement victory over Pace Academy from Atlanta.

Detroit Mercy commit is someone who has been dealing with injuries last year and I think people forget about his ability to play at a high level. This kid is so smooth and skilled with great length. He is a real mismatch issue on this Lima Senior team because you will be forced to put a bigger player on him and with his handling and shiftiness they will stand no chance. He has a great ability to shoot off the dribble. He knocks down contested shots easily. I expect his senior year to be one that he wants to remind everyone just how good he is.

Cotton whose perimeter size is really imposing on the wing makes his mark from three often. He shoots and clean ball and uses his length to shoot over you. He also is able to get to spots around the basket and in the half-court.

Cotton battled injuries during his junior year of high school and 17 U grassroots season, making his recruitment a bit of a mystery. We’ve seen players like Chico Johnson and

suffer injuries that caused them to miss significant portions of their 17 U grassroots season and still commit to Missouri Valley programs, so Cotton should still be on track to make a decision when he feels comfortable. Cotton has six Division I offers but Detroit is the only one who offered him in 2024. We’ll see how Cotton plays as a senior and if he commits to one of the six programs that have already offered or if a new program will come in late.

Cotton was another high-level prospect in the event and showed me great improvements to his game. He is already known for his height and length for a guard but he has improved on that great foundation. He has gotten quick and stronger athletically. He was taking people off the dribble a lot more. Was able to shake the defense down and get to the rim. His 1 on 1 game now is extremely difficult to stop. He moves very smoothly as well. Superfluid and rhythmic player. His shoot was pure from beyond the arc. He was scoring a ton, but this time from everywhere on the court.

Cotton has been a prospect on the rise and gaining offers heading into this high school season. The junior guard has 6 D1 offers including Toledo, Central Arkansas, Kent State, and more. Cotton is a very tall and long wing who has a very smooth game. He is skilled and fluid. He has a great jumper from beyond the arc. He needs little to no space to get his shot off because of his height and length. He is automatic when he is in rhythm. He has a good sense of when he should attack and just shoot it. He gets to the rim well. His athleticism continues to get better and better which is just going to take his game to the next level.

It was a tough game for Midwest 16 U 3SSB on Wednesday before bracket play started but Cotton was a bright spot on his team. Making shots from the perimeter and making the extra pass, Cotton has continued to impress and develop each time I watch him play. A standout in multiple settings for both Midwest 3SSB 16 U and Lima Sr, Cotton has shown why four in state MAC programs have already offered him. A name to continue to monitor in NW Ohio’s 2025 class, Cotton could become a statewide household name by the time his Junior season wraps up.
