Ybarra excelled at touching the paint, consistently finding himself in the middle of the floor to make a play at the rim. Whenever he put his head down, tucked his shoulder, and penetrated the lane, he got into the paint where his hang time and creativity made him a masterful finisher. He showed a variety of layups that countered shot-blocking attempts and often led to free-throw opportunities. He created several foul calls by shifting his weight and leaning into defenders. He also changed gears with terrific timing, stopping on a dime before changing directions and freezing his defender.
