It was a sluggish start for Morrow against Southwest-Macon but eventually the Mustangs got rolling, clamping down to hold the Patriots to just 12 second half points to win 48-38. Ja’Kye Benjamin had a nice showing serving as a primary ball handler and scoring threat. He sank a pair of threes and snuck on the glass for a putback. Benjamin finished with 8 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal.

His pace and poise stand out. Benjamin also contributes as a rebounder from the guard spot and stays level-headed when games get tight. He appears ready to take another leap forward this season.

The silky-smooth combo guard is comfortable playing both the 1 and the 2. Benjamin excels at getting to his spots along the perimeter, knocking down pull-up jumper from the mid-range and three-point line. When he gets into traffic he can score with his floater. Benjamin plays bigger than his size. He has poise with the ball when facing pressure and does the little things well like rebounding from his guard position. Expect a breakout season after averaging 5.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists as a sophomore.
