Not playing AAU and being tucked away in the Southwest portion of the state, Wetzel understandably flies under the radar and has maybe sacrificed some development time relative to some of his counterparts. But nevertheless he’s on track for a breakout at some point while showing signs of putting together some really strong building blocks on the interior. Wetzel is a skilled passer out of the post and shows good chemistry playing with his guards in the screen-and-roll game. He’s a natural space-eater around the cup who’s learning to assert himself more consistently and keep up with the speed of higher-level games. Scholarship-level looks could be on the way as he continues to make progress in his development, particularly with the potential of a prep year looming on the table as Wetzel will have just turned 18 at the time of his high school graduation.

Wetzel impressed with his shear size which allows him to eat away space underneath. He has great timing when going up to alter shots. Wetzel needs to work on using shot fakes around the bucket. Wetzel is a good screener and as good chemistry with guards, but needs to be a more assertive roller to the rim. He does a nice job of passing the basketball and has no issue sharing the sugar. I would also like to see him demand for the ball when he has his defender sealed. He grabbed double digit boards, he needs to remember to chin every rebound and or keep it high so smaller opponents can’t strip him. He showed he can score from the dunker spots. Wetzel oozes with potential but needs to believe in himself and keep stacking good days.

Wetzel is an emerging center whose best ball is on the horizon. He eats up a ton of space with his length and is a real presence on the interior. He uses his soft hands to catch passes and has no problem finishing around the paint and can be a threat from the dunker spots. He has adequate timing when going up to alter shots. Wetzel has great chemistry with his guards and can operate well out off the two man game and rolls to the rim well. I would like to see him wall-up more as a defender. Wetzel is also an effective passer, He has all the tools to burst onto the scene this upcoming season and look forward to tracking his progress.
