Goodnough caught my eye in the game against South Lyon East. He showed that he can be a dangerous athletic shooter. He took an off balance triple and buried it with ease. Better yet, he did the same thing from basically the same spot later in the game.

Goodnough was solid both with his defense and with his hustle. They almost fed each other. Goodnough kept a good defensive base and used his strength to alter a ball handlers path.

Goodnough is a skilled player that really plays the game ‘the right way’. He works even harder without the ball, which makes life with the ball that much easier for him. Goodnough earns looks at the rim and delivers with his jumper when he gets them. He brings that same energy to the defensive end. Goodnough caught some eyes at the Freshman Showcase last year and would again at the Sophomore ID Camp this year.

Goodnough played up all summer and did more than fit in. He looked really good again this week in the open gym. Goodnough has a good size and frame he’s definitely learned how to use it. He looked under control, almost like the game continues to slow down for him.

I’ve always seen Goodnough as an unselfish player that will still get his. He appeared to be filling that mold this weekend by being a consistent scorer and doing it in an efficient manner.

There’s a couple reasons why Goodnough fits this label. First of all, I love watching players play the game ‘the right way’. He’s willing to work as hard without the ball as he does with it and he seems to understand spacing and movement. The second, I just see some much growth in his game over the coming years and that’s always fun to watch.

I read a few things throughout the AAU season about how well Jake was performing playing up with Inspire U 2027. The attention was warranted. Jake plays a simple game; he moves very well on offense AND will screen for others, competes on defense, and is a good shooter. Countless times throughout the two games, Goodnough found himself wide open all because of his movement and screening ability off the ball.
