Expert Analysis
Jay Anderson | Prep Hoops Scout
McCandies continues to show his growth in the All Carolina rotation; do-it-all wing who can dial it up from deep, distribute and make things happen in the painted area; as he puts on more muscle, look for the game to come easy to him; he’s a prospect for DII/DIII programs to take a look at in June; long, wiry and plays with a ton of energy on the hardwoods

McCandies looked like one of the most dependable players in the gym all weekend long. Every time All Carolina needed a bucket or someone to settle things offensively, he seemed to answer. He scored comfortably from all three levels, moved well without the ball, and never looked rushed. What stands out most is how naturally the scoring comes at his size, especially on the wing.

McCandies is just a tough matchup. He’s long, confident, and can do a little bit of everything, spot up, attack closeouts, run in transition, or make a simple play off the bounce. What I liked most was he didn’t force it. He let the game come to him and still found ways to produce.

McCandies produced 16 points and 7 rebounds on 55% shooting in the fourth round. At 6′5″ he uses his length to attack smaller guards and clean the glass, giving him a mismatch on both ends. He’s a versatile wing who can slash to the basket and hit pull-up jumpers. McCandies finishes strong around the rim, has good rebound instincts for his size, and improving perimeter skills.

McCandies is a smooth long-wing scorer who thrives in Walkertown’s up-tempo system with deep range and a lightning-quick release. He attacks closeouts with shiftiness, rebounds well for his position, and creates steals with active hands on defense. Still filling out his frame, he projects as a high-upside perimeter threat ready to stretch floors at the next level. In February he stayed efficient with 12 points (including two threes) in the OT conference final thriller against Reidsville and chipped in 9 points with 7 rebounds in a key win over McMichael.

McCandies brings great size and skill to the backcourt, with the ability to score efficiently from all three levels. He shows strong feel as a passer, sees the floor well, and can create for others or himself. His length and touch around the basket make him a tough cover, especially when he’s in rhythm.

McCandies put together a strong showing against Mount Tabor, finishing with 15 points and 7 rebounds. He scored efficiently as a three-level scorer, getting to his spots and finding ways to produce within the offense. He also showed good vision as a creator, particularly when attacking the paint and finding space to finish or create opportunities for his teammates.

McCandies is a high-volume shooter and scorer who thrives in Walkertown’s up-tempo system. He plays with confidence beyond his years: deep range off the catch and dribble, quick release, and the ability to heat up in bunches. He’s shifty in the open floor, uses hesitation moves to create space, and competes hard on defense (active hands, good lateral quickness). His shooting feel and fearlessness suggest big upside as he adds strength and refines his handle. College coaches in need of a shooter should get in on him early.

Another tweener prospect at Walkertown High in North Carolina’s 2027 class; shows poise getting to the paint and finishing in traffic; spaces the floor well with his perimeter shooting, especially in transition; versatile and confident given his length at 6-foot-5; a lot of room to grow as a junior prospect
