As the only returning starter for the defending champs, Smith has been tasked with keeping the tradition going. In the first half, he was a tough cover. Has a nasty mid-range game, hitting tough jumpers and getting to the rim. Foul trouble hampered his second half, even starting the fourth with four fouls and on the bench. He then fouled out shortly after checking in. A disappointing ending to the senior’s night but an important learning lesson. Which given the experience and winning Smith has under his belt, he surely will learn from it. And hopefully he’ll play with joy and looseness as the star man for Weatherford.

The defending Class 4A Champs continue to take care of business as they’re now 11-0. They defended homecourt on Saturday night with a 74-51 win over ranked 4A opponent Blanchard. Smith has been a four year starter for one of the best programs in Oklahoma. But has been a bit overshadowed because of the amazing group of 2025 and 2024 players he played with. Still, Smith was a key part of their success as a rock solid guard. He’s now taken it to heart to keep the tradition going with a 32 point performance in the title game victory over Blanchard. The Eagles closed out the Big House with an epic title, and Smith is positioning them to reach the new Coliseum in order to defend it.

Smith continues to prove there’s no dropoff in the Eagles’ starting five. He brought critical perimeter shooting, scrappy defense and a battler’s mentality all weekend as Weatherford had two statement wins and pushed Owasso. Has matured into a stronger guard by Oklahoma standards, who is fearless around the rim. Good example of a Swiss Army Knife style player, who compliments his senior teammates perfectly.

Considering that for the last few years Smith has practiced every day against the giant frontline of his Eagles teammates, it shouldn’t be a shock that’s he turning into a quality finisher at the rim. Add in some timely three point shooting, and he’s becoming even more of a threat who must be accounted for by the opposition. A lot of pub goes to the rest of the Eagles teammates, but Smith has been rock solid since his freshman year and now appears to carving out an even bigger scoring role.
