Mark Miller | Prep Hoops Scout
A varsity performer at Assumption in each of the past three seasons, Schlaefer is another lover of the game who always seems to be in the gym working on his game. He has become a very good long-distance shooter, which has helped to make his off-the-bounce game even more lethal. Schlaefer does a good job of finishing over taller defenders with his athleticism and with his step back shots in transition. He also is a solid passer in the open court and can run a team in the halfcourt. Schlaefer is the leader for the Just A Game Fieldhouse Select squad and is vocal on the floor and in the huddle, always encouraging his teammates. Schalefer can play either guard spot, but he seems to be moving toward being a true point guard.

Schlaefer made impact plays on both ends, showcasing a gritty, all-around game for JAG Select . Defensively, he hounded matchups full court and didn’t back down from switching onto bigger players. On offense, he attacked the rim with strength and speed, drawing contact and finishing tough plays. Teams were forced to face guard him due to his knack for getting to his spots and making plays in traffic. His physicality and relentless approach made him a matchup problem throughout the pool play.

Schlaefer had it going early and then made some big plays late to help JAG Select post a 63-60 win over Wear Out the Net – Kranz. Schlaefer scored the first 14 points of the game for his team as he finished off drives to the basket, knocked down a couple of threes and scored in transition. His shiftiness with the ball in his hands and his quick first step kept defenders a bit off balance for most of the game. He hit some big shots down the stretch, including a clutch triple, and finished with 26 points to lead all scorers. Schlaefer is a point guard with good vision and the ability to put up points on the scoreboard.

A very good team leader already as a junior, Schlaefer was tightly guarded by Columbus Catholic for the entire 36 minutes. The Dons made it tough for Schlaefer to get good looks at the basket, but the quick and athletic junior still managed to score 15 points. Schlaefer has a quick first step with the ball in his hands and is strong enough to finish through contact. He is an unselfish player who did a good job of looking for his teammates while also defending with purpose on the perimeter. Schalefer is a consistent three-point jump shot away from being one of more complete players in central Wisconsin.
