Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Kornegay made the biggest individual splash we saw all day, getting loose for 34 points in a blowout win. The hard-charging forward played with a nonstop motor throughout the contest while wreaking havoc near the rim. He attacked consistently in transition while also bringing consistent activity to the halfcourt setting as a cutter and offensive rebounder, oftentimes before finishing emphatically above the rim. His blend of size, athleticism, motor, and budding skills should make him a scholarship-level target over the remaining portion of the season.

Kornegay has been a factor in the Fels rotation for years and now looks to be among the more intriguing unsigned seniors in the city as he tries to lead the Panthers back to the Public League title game. An athletic mismatch forward, he’s at his best in the open floor where he can fill lanes and finish athletically on the wing but really intrigues with his ability to push the ball coast-to-coast off the defensive glass. He moves well off the ball in the halfcourt to position himself for easy buckets off of dumpoffs or offensive rebounds while showing flashes as a shooting threat from the perimeter. Kornegay’s physical tools, motor, and burgeoning skillset make him a clear scholarship-level forward who should garner significant attention throughout the winter.

In the half-court, Kornegay is an effective option in the dunker spot. He can also score on dives to the cup and out of pick-n-roll action. Prospects who want to play inside at the 4 or 5 are difficult to find, but Kornegey is one who does. He sets physical screens before rolling to the rim. He has a good second jump when going after offensive rebounds and when contesting shots. And when he catches the ball inside the arc, Kornegey immediately tries to get a touch shot or puts his head down to drive for a higher percentage bucket. He’s just getting his feet wet at this level so his best basketball is in front of him.
