New Lexington is 6-1 thanks to a high powered offense that Stephens is in complete command of. The Panthers have scored 44 or more points in four out of seven games this season and are projected to be one of the top seeds in region 15. One of the best players in the MVL on the gridiron and hardwood, Stephens is an athlete that people outside of just southeast Ohio should know about.

The third football athlete in this article, Stephens is having a great season as the commander of the Panthers offense. Also an electric player on the hardwood, Stephens is one of southeast Ohio’s best. A high level scorer and creator, Stephens has been tearing up MVL defenses for the past two seasons.

One of my favorite small-town guards in Ohio, I didn’t get the chance to catch Stephens this summer but his production speaks for itself with New Lexington in the MVL. The lefty can really create off the bounce and score in isolation settings. When the whole defense knows Stephens is the one who needs to make a play, he has the ability to get a shot for himself or his teammates that’s going to be a high percentage look. I also love that Stephens plays football as well, playing for a New Lex program that puts up points in a hurry. I expect regional small college programs to make Stephens a priority this winter.

Not many people know about Stephens as he plays in a small town in the MVL. He just led New Lexington back to the district title game, where they’ll face Vincent Warren in the Convo for a spot in regionals. I love the isolation ability Stephens has to create off the bounce and attack, he’s usually forced into these shots after teams try and take away his 3-point shot. A tough kid who has helped win some big games for his team despite being double-teamed consistently. One of the top players in southeast Ohio, Stephens shouldn’t stay under the radar after coming up big in March once again for his hometown team.

It was nice to catch New Lexington and see how Stephens has improved since I caught him in the playoffs as a Sophomore. I thought Stephens showed continued confidence on the ball and created a lot of his points through isolation moves. Soft touch on his shots, Stephens can hit floaters, jump-stop finishes and mid-range shots. Not the quickest athlete, Stephens still had a couple blow by moves against the Logan Elm defense. A big scoring game for Stephens is nothing new to him as he’s one of the top players in southeast Ohio’s 2025 class.
