Head of the snake for Calumet. Always moving, always applying on the ball pressure and hustling on defense. Had spurts of success on offense. Can hit from deep and finish around the rim. Needs to be more fluid and quicker getting into his shots, as the speed of Okarche seemed to negatively impact some of his attempts. Liked the vision he showed on one baseline drive, where he wrapped a pass around a couple defenders to an open teammate. Tough loss but the goal of bringing another Gold Ball home to Calumet is very much still alive.

Mayfield closed out the Big House by winning the Class B title with an up tempo Calumet team. Now he’s looking to win another with the new Class B1 split and the new Coliseum. He combines with future collegiate baseball players Kaleb Thiessen and Kingston Arnold to give the Chieftains an experienced backcourt. Mayfield in particular can light it up from deep. While playing on or off the ball. They’re currently second in the Class B1, as they’ve lost a pair and Stuart is undefeated to earn the top ranked spot. They’ve won 5 straight since a loss to Class A contender Cyril. And have another State Title type test when they visit defending Class A champs Okarche on Tuesday.

Efficient and crafty shooter, with his coach’s kid background being clear. Made the right passes and took good looks. Utilizes backdoor cuts to take advantage of players overplaying his shooting ability. Smart player on both ends of the court. Looks ready to defend Calumet’s Class B State Title.

Hunter is absolutely great as a help defender and as a help defensive rebounder. Any big guy would love having him on the team because he makes defense so much easier for them. Hands are always in every passing lane, even when his hands aren’t up. He anticipates the pass as a natural reaction for him. Plays hard and tough at all times, regardless of what his shooting percentage is on the day.

This kid is amazing! Played with grit and energy the whole tournament. Hunter couldn’t buy a bucket the whole tournament until the championship game, where he literally couldn’t miss a shot. The amazing part is, throughout the time when he couldn’t make a bucket, his defense was constant. His hands were always in the passing lanes, and he was anticipating every opponent’s moves in hopes of making a deflection. He was getting huge rebounds over bigs and under bigs. He kept at it the whole time. He gave good overall on-ball pressure and made things hard for any opponent in the vicinity. When it all came together for him in the championship game against Legacy Youth Basketball , his team(OK Runners) was unstoppable.

Hunter Mayfield is a defensive difference-maker, the kind of player who sets the tone with grit and intensity. He thrives in on-ball situations, locking down his assignment and forcing tough decisions. Whether it’s picking up a clutch stop, forcing a 5-second call, or pressuring the ball into turnovers, Mayfield consistently disrupts the flow of opposing offenses. His hustle translates directly into extra opportunities for his team on the other end, turning defense into offense.
