Cham is set to receive a healthy bump in the rankings update and it wasn’t only because his loud weekend at Spooky Nook. The 6’5″-6’6″ wing has steadily taken strides with his game over the last 4-to-5 months and will be one of my candidates to not only be a breakout prospect in the Baltimore County Public School sector, but the Baltimore Metro Area as a whole. Head coach Will Watts has done a great job of developing talent at Overlea even when that means starting the process with the players on the JV level. His combination of size, shooting and athleticism are all qualities that’ll allow him to be a scholarship prospect at the collegiate level. All of these traits were displayed this past weekend and his 22.5PPG can attest to that. His scoring came in a variety of ways. Knocking down three’s off elevator screens, sticking shots as the trailier in transition or pursuing the offensive glass. For the numbers that he posted, his efficiency within his dribbles are excellent. Look for Cham’s name to trend this season in the area as he continues to turn the corner within his development and maturation process.

This Overlea team has the talent, athleticism and depth at each position to make a run at the county title and beyond this season. Cham will play a critical role in that process as the 6-foot-5 wing possesses explosive athleticism around the rim that jumps out at you when he’s in the open floor. He gave hints of what was to come in warm-ups throwing down windmill dunks with relative ease. I was pleased to see there’s much more to his game though, and throughout the weekend he showed some touch from the mid-range and plenty of defensive tools that make him one of the more intriguing prospect in the Baltimore County Public School landscape.

After a slow start, Cham showcased an abundance of shotmaking and athleticism against Paul VI (NJ). He torched the defense from deep with five triples. Cham already had long arms for a wing; so has soon as he caught the ball in-rhythm or with his defender playing off, Cham shot it over them. In the midst of his threes, he tipped in a rebound with one hand and, in the second half, went uptop for a huge dunk in transition. 22p 3r 1s
