Sam Duren | Prep Hoops Scout
The senior at first glance gives off the appearance of a bully ball, small school standout. Which yes, he is strong off the dribble, and has good lift around the rim. But he’s also one of the better shooters in the small school ranks. Matlock has dribble moves to get off his shot against defenders and has DEEP range from three. The threes can also come in bunches, which is one of the best traits for a shooter, allowing them to quickly change games. The McLoud senior was a late player ID’d by the site following a January contest. And given his size and shooting ability, he could be one of the more undervalued long term prospects in Oklahoma’s senior class.

The lefty has an unorthodox form, but he lets it fly from confidence, even a few steps from beyond the arc. And for good reason, he poured in a game high 31 points. Much of it coming from beyond the arc, including a three that broke the seal for him that had to be near NBA range. He’s most comfortable bombing from distance, but has a strong frame and had spurts of attacking the rim throughout the contest. Matlock leaned on his left hand when finishing, even when going to the right, which is an area to keep an eye one.
It was the first viewing of the senior sharpshooter and he left quite an impression with his proficiency from deep.
