I caught Cruz against Brownlee Jr in the regional semis and it was Cruz who walked away with the win as Canfield advanced to the regional final. Cruz also caused havoc defensively turning steals into transition opportunities. A leader for his team on the court, I know college programs will value the leadership he brings to his team. I also thought Cruz was efficient as a shooter, taking looks within the flow of the offense. One of the top guards in the Youngstown area, Cruz had a strong senior season for a Canfield squad that made the elite 8 in Division II.

Canfield had a lot of guys who made plays on both ends of the court. The Cardinals took care of the basketball, worked it around to get good shots and made plays when it mattered to advance. I could’ve picked a few players to spotlight but I went with Cruz because him turning steals into layups started a 25-5 run where Canfield took control in the third and fourth quarter. A solid athlete, Cruz jumped passing lanes and was athletic and coordinated enough to make acrobatic layups at the rim. Already named to an all Ohio team as a junior, I’d expect Cruz to be a pick again this season when those teams are announced.
