About Derrick

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a tough on-ball defender who consistently gets paint touches. I am a good finisher who can knock down shots. As a pg I understand my responsibility is too run the offense and make sure everyone is involved and where they need to be.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

The team comes first. Whatever I need to do to put my team in a position to win is what I’ll do.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I play for Vito Gorillas and I have received multiple honor roll awards and principal awards for my contributions in the classroom.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I've learned to be more vocal and the importance of speaking up to keep everyone engaged and on the same page.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My biggest challenge was switching from more of a pure point guard to a scoring guard. This was asked of me from my high school coach. I was taught in a more traditional manner when it comes to running pg but my school needed me to take on a scoring load.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for colleges that will help me develop more as a player and prayerfully obtain a scholarship
