Guarding was one of the most confident players I saw on Saturday. He has the green light from anywhere on the court. He has an unlimited range. The ball comes off his hand quick. He knocked down a ton of shots in the game I watched. He was able to create space with a quick step back. He did a great job of creating contact and then hopping back to get space. Once he created space the shot was up and in. He has great stamina as well and he was always moving on the offensive end.

The Cincy Titans held off a strong comeback from Phenom United Lima to win their opening game of the weekend and Gearding was lighting it up from long distance in the first half to give his team the cushion it needed in the second half. A talented shooter, Gearding knocked down at least three first half 3-pointers and one came immediately after he blocked a layup on the defensive end. In crunch time Gearding had an and-1 layup to put the game away for his group. When Gearding and the rest of his Cincy Titans team takes care of the basketball, they are tough to stop offensively with their perimeter shooting ability.

Gearding caught fire from downtown knocking down 3-pointers off the bounce going left, right or around pick and rolls. Gearding even got a friendly roll on his first shot of the game that I caught. I was surprised how well Gearding shot the ball from long distance considering he knocked down just seven 3-pointers as a Junior. If this shooting progression is legit, Gearding could spike up from his 11.5 PPG average last season.

I could’ve picked a handful of players as my second spotlight from the Cincy Titans 16 U squad, I landed on Gearding. A guard who makes the extra pass, took care of the ball and could knock down an open shot. Gearding wasn’t the most talented kid on the court, but he did the little things well and few players had as big of an impact on winning as Gearding did on Saturday. When you have players that do the things that Gearding does on the court, it becomes infectious to the whole team. With a 16 point win and 21 point win on Saturday, safe to say the Cincy Titans are doing something right this weekend playing in their hometown.
