One of Oklahoma’s best scorers, Benard has Varnum ranked second in Class B, ready for a return trip to the Big House. Last time in the Class B quarterfinals they lost, but he poured in 26 points. He has next level size and athleticism, with powerful dunks in transition and acrobatic finishes in traffic. Add in his ability to catch fire from three and the central Oklahoma standout is sure to rack up the points and highlights in another run to the state tournament. Has the type of game that thrives at an up and down JuCo for a year or two, before settling in as an impact player at a good four year program.

Last but not least is one of the most explosive scoring performances of the day. Varnum came up short, but Benard lit up the scoreboard. Especially from DEEP. The big guard has a smooth, easily repeatable shot and is deadly when his feet are set and given space. He also had a couple good, fluid moves off the dribble that combined his plus athleticism with his strong frame. While his high school season ended, the small town standout looks set for a big grassroots campaign.

It was the first viewing of Benard since a camp last September, and he remains a promising prospect with a great physical frame, a plus wingspan and good athleticism. It was a struggle for his squad against second ranked Duke, but there was a second half stretch where he caught fire from three with deep and tough makes. After the loss to Duke, Benard and his teammates rebounded to win the Area consolation on Saturday night so his season is still alive.
Tracking the 2025’s guard development and play at the grassroots level will be a fun watch this spring and summer.
