Expert Analysis

Walker is another prospect who’s had a productive grassroots season with Top Shot Basketball East as he’s shown his confidence attacking the rim, defending the ball and knocking down shots in the open court. He’s utilizing his athleticism a whole lot more to get to the rim and show off his ability to finish in traffic and it’s time college coaches starting taking notice. As he puts more size on his athletic frame, he’s a name for DII programs in the region to get eyes on.

Walker is a long, athletic body that continues to improve his skill level and has strung together some good performances for Top Shot Basketball East this spring cycle. Very solid slasher that attacks the rim as a cutter and finisher with the ball in his hands, and can play above the rim with his long frame. Intriguing upside as a switchable and mobile defender because of his length and athleticism laterally, but still needs to do a little work to guard bigger bodies in the post. He’s a guy that is still polishing, but has a lot of upside and should be a college level guy sooner than later.

Fayetteville Academy was represented well via Walker’s presence at Cox Mill HS. Walker stands at 6-foot-7 and was difficult to contain from start to finish. The first game his team played was very high-scoring – indicative of a showcase event like Sunday’s. Walker understands the art of drawing contact and getting to the free throw line. He is also a skilled rebounder and a 3-point jump shot is part of his overall offensive repertoire. Walker has “showtime” in one of his social media profiles – it certainly was showtime at this year’s Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo as he is poised for a stellar junior campaign.

This wasn’t the first time I had seen Walker this summer, but I still left impressed with how his game has improved. Super explosive athlete that doesn’t necessarily show it immediately on the floor. Went up off the drive and threw down a couple of mean dunks during the game I saw him in. Thought that his ability to attack the basket and get to the free throw line as well was phenomenal. Defensively is long and able to move laterally as well. Fayetteville Academy returns him and many others this year.

Walker is a name out of Fayetteville Academy who seems ready to grow into a bigger role heading into a new season. He produced 5.4 PPG and 3.0 RPG as a sophomore on varsity on the NCISAA stage. He’s a young forward prospect who should turn heads with his length and athleticism around the rim at this year’s showcase.
