Expert Analysis
Tom Keller | Prep Hoops Scout
Richards is a utility man who does whatever is needed to help his team win basketball games. He guards multiple positions and can switch ball screens. His length and quickness allow him to come up with steals, rebounds, and blocks. He does all three of those things in timely fashions. Richards can be a threat from behind the arc and is a budding 3-D man. He really knows how to play his role which should make his transition the the next level smooth. Richards would be great addition to a postgrad basketball program who needs a late blooming swingman.

-One of the bigger stock-risers of the summer, Richards has a chance to pop onto college coach’s radars with his blend of midrange shooting, defending, off-ball movement, and rebounding. As Richards steps into a bigger role in a thin Bulldogs frontcourt, his value as a prospect that’s willing to do whatever it takes that night to help his team win will likely be on display. Richards can guard up two positions, has improved his conditioning to show off a better vert and endurance running the floor, is a vocal defender and respected teammate, and has put in the work to be a viable C+S threat for the talented senior duo of Reibe+Stevens to find in the halfcourt.

-Athletically was a level above most of his competition here, hands have gotten much better on tough catches in transition/cuts to the rim, body has improved. More consistent follow through and balance on his jumper, knocked down C+S looks from the perimeter and hit a pull-up from the elbow. Had a nice rip through on the perimeter and straight line drive to the rim for an explosive dunk. His defensive versatility and willingness to do the little things while polishing his skillbase will make him an intriguing prospect to track for LM coaches.

Heading into this summer, I knew Chris Richards had the tools defensively with his athletic ability and size. What was still up for debate heading into this summer was where Chris’s jump shot was. Chris shot the ball at a high level in both sessions and even though it wasn’t on super high volume, he still showed the massive improvements he had made in that area. He shot 14/21 from three in the seven games Bullis played at DMVlive. Chris will have a bigger role for this Bullis squad, and a 6’5 G/W with elite athleticism and 3+D ability will not be a hard sell to college coaches.

I talked about Chris’s efficiency and improvement in shooting so far at DMVlive, and he again showed out for Bullis. Chris had 14 points on 7 shots. Chris has become a terrific spot-up shooter and a great athlete. He can be a really solid three-and-d guy at the next level.

A year ago, Chris Richards would not be on this list. He deserves much credit for where his jump shot is now, and this weekend was a great example. Chris is a great athlete and has next-level in size for a guard. The shot was the last thing missing for me, and it looked great last weekend. Chris has developed into a reliable catch-and-shoot threat, and even though he did not take that many threes, he was super efficient. He went 9/12 from three in 4 games.

Chris Richards had a flawless offensive game for Bullis. Even though he shot the ball well all weekend, today was his best performance. Chris has excellent size for a two-guard and has shown his ability as a spot-up shooter. He went 6/6 from the field and 5/5 from 3. Chris finished with 17 points and 6 rebounds.

Probably the most athletic performer in the showcase, he is making better decisions and is getting to his spots with better pace and an improved handle. He’s worked hard on his jumper and it shows, knocking down several C+S looks at the rim from beyond the arc with a good rhythm. Defensively, he has the tools and want-to to earn some minutes on a very good Bullis team that will need guys to step up with several key pieces graduating and moving on to the next leve.
