-I saw Donfack for the first time at the Challenge last week and walked away impressed with his motor and size as a demon on the glass for OLMC. Donfack served as an effective play-finisher around the basket, rebounded the ball well to extend possessions for his team, and was a versatile jack of all trades for the Cougars defensively. While I don’t see him knocking down jumpers or mixing defenders any time soon, I think he will be effective at the offensive end of the floor because he understands spacing and has the athletic chops to finish over most high school defenders. Playing for a coach that values motor and defense while attacking by committee at the offensive end, I would not be surprised to see Donfack play almost the entire game alongside Mancho in the frontcourt.

It was my first viewing of Donfack, who made his way to the states via Cameroon and joins a Mount Carmel group featuring a slew of international talent. The upside is clear with him at 6-foot-8, a plus wingspan and pogo-stick athleticism around the rim. What I wasn’t aware of was the relentless motor and IQ that Donfack brings. He’s a menace on the glass at both ends of the floor but if he isn’t able to have an immediate clear look on the offensive end, he quickly finds a guard to reset the offense. Even in the open floor if the ball was advanced to him, Donfack waited until the numbers game benefited his team whereas majority of players would’ve forced their way to a bad shot. He’s still a long ways away from a finished product, but he’ll have an impact that exceeds expectations this season for the Cougars in the BCL/MIAA and a ceiling long term that is extremely intriguing.
