Expert Analysis
Van Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
Averaged 22ppg, 3apg & 2spg this season the DCIAA Champions. Cameron is a quick shifty guard that stays in the passing lanes and blow by defenders in transition & as they sit in half court defenses. He’s about to stop and pop and the midrange or dump it off as defenders set up. His IQ level is very high as he reads the defense & is able to dish the ball to the open man no matter where they are on the court!

No. 201 – No. 71
Cam flew onto our radar early in the season and by February has jumped up into the top 20 at his position in Maryland/DC. He has had another outstanding season and will rightfully be in the race for Player of the Year out in DC again. Showed up all season averaging 19 points, 5 assists, and just under 5 steals a night. Cam’s motor is extremely impressive, as Cardozo likes to play fullcourt trap defense the entire game with him at the helm. He is just as effective defensively, hence the average of 4.8 steals per game. Offensively, Young does a good job of adjusting to the defense throughout the game and coming back with counters to get the shots he desires. Likes to break down his defender with his tight handle, very effective isolation guard when hunting for his shot. Can step-back behind the line for 3 or dance past the defense and get in-between. Cam understands where and when to find his teammates as well, making the Clerks a fun team to watch when things are rolling.

Cam is the driving force behind Cardozo’s persistent attack. This weekend was another stage for Young to show his high-level talent on both ends of the floor. He can get into the paint almost at will due to his combination of handle and pace-change. In his second game he highlighted his variety of finishes underneath, completing drives with outstanding touch and complete awareness of the help defense. Had some tough float finishes over or through the defense. Cam played well out in transition in both games. He makes very good reads, knowing when to pass or attack. Flashed some true shooting ability although not as consistent as he would’ve liked. Always gets after it defensively, defending and trapping full-court for the full duration of the game. Young reads the passing lanes well and came up with a few steals both on and off the ball. Finished with 20+ points in both outings at the Capitol Hoops Challenge, finishing the weekend 1-1.

-Overcame a pretty miserable offensive first half by darting through the lane on a regular basis to collect several hockey assists after his kickout led to a great one-more for a perimeter J from one of his teammates. The shifty point guard bends the defense because of his ability to get to the cup, distribute, pull up on a dime for an elbow J, or ball fake to create space for himself. Young was a defensive menace both on the ball and as a helper in his team’s fullcourt press, turning a single-digit game into a 16-point win for Cardozo
