Thompson has emerged as quite the small forward prospect in the JL Chambers frontcourt over the past few months as he moves into the 51st spot in the rankings market corrections. He nearly averaged a double-double as a junior with 7.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.1 steals per contest for the Cougars. They made it all the way to the Final Four of the NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs before falling to crosstown rival, North Mecklenburg. Thompson showed his grit as a disruptor and cleanup guy on the interior and showed he can play a lot bigger than his listed height with his motor. He recorded nine double-doubles in 2024-25 and returns with a lot more to prove. He’s even more efficient as a scoring threat after shooting 56 percent from the field as well. He’ll suit up with Team Charlotte this spring/summer.

With his length and quickness, he can guard multiple positions, disrupt passing lanes, and bring the kind of energy that fires up his team. Offensively, he moves well without the ball, finds ways to score in transition, and crashes the glass for extra possessions. While he’s still growing as a shooter, Thompson’s defense, effort, and leadership make him an irreplaceable piece for Chambers as they push for a state title.

Thompson is an outstanding perimeter defender with a long wingspan and good lateral quickness. A glue guy, hustle player that brings the defensive intensity. Thompson also has a reliable shot from beyond the arc. He has great size which he uses to his advantage to finish inside efficiently. Thompson is a very good athlete with plenty of upside.

Thompson moves into 118th in the state and 14th overall at his position fresh off the 2026 Watch List. He’s a sizeable prospect at 6-foot-4 who’s shown he can shoot the ball with efficiency from behind the arc heading into his junior year with a top program in the state in JL Chambers High. He put up 3.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game as a sophomore in the varsity rotation this past season. There’s room for him to emerge and take a ton of pressure off their featured names in the 2024-25.
