12p 5a 2r 3s/game
-The veteran of a young Sidwell team that is missing the other two starters in the backcourt, Gillus stepped up as the vocal leader at both ends of the floor. The senior guard got to the rim or created a perimeter shot when the Quakers needed a bucket, stepping up his offensive production to keep his team in games against a good slate of NC talent. Although he sees the passing reads on his half of the floor I would like him to look opposite more to the wings and corners to shift the defense a bit more for a Quakers team that lacks the shooting that usually spaces the floor for them in the halfcourt.

17p 10a 5r 3s vs John Marshall
Took advantage of a bigger role in the offense with Sidwell’s other two PGs missing time this weekend, showing his usual pesky perimeter defense while running the show for the Quakers. He’s taking better care of the ball while improving his court vision on drives to the paint, utilizing hop steps and reverse pivots to create easy looks for his teammates in his double-double performance against a good John Marshall team.

Caleb Gillus is one of my favorite guys to watch in the DMV, and I highlighted why in my breakdown of Team Takeover 17U. Caleb is a leader who does the dirty work for his team to win. Caleb does it all on the court, and his intangibles were on full display. He had a game winner, and his hustle and IQ were big in Team Takeover’s win.

Caleb Gillus is a terrific glue guy. He does the little things exceptionally well and is the type of player every coach loves. He is a great defender and hounds opposing guards. He is a solid shooter and always makes the right play. He is effective off the ball and on it. He is one of the better role players in the DMV, and he’s a guy who, with more eyes on him, will get more love for what he brings.

-The consummate defender and teammate joins this TTO National team to immediately set the tone at both ends of the floor with his energy and execution. A willing passer and driver, he’s also capable of locking up most guards with his ability to get under his matchup and ball-hawk any time they put the ball on the floor. Capable of hitting C+S threes in rhythm.

-Gillus has consistently performed as one of the top utility players in the DMV, filling whatever gap Sidwell finds itself having that day defensively, on the glass or as a shooter– Gillus filled all 3 for the Quakers in their 3rd straight MAC Championship. He gets to a ton of loose balls but has the athleticism and timing to out-jump taller opponents for key rebounds that extend possessions for Sidwell. His willingness to do the dirty work is invaluable to what Coach Singletary wants his team to do at both ends of the floor. Maret left him wide open on his first 4 attempts and he capitalized to force the Frogs to change their defense strategy.
