Expert Analysis
Will Armishaw | Prep Hoops Scout
Ballou, a senior out of Mascoma Valley, was named the NHBCO D-III Player of the Year after averaging 20.7 points per game, 2nd among all players in D-III. A smaller guard, Ballou proved that his size wasn’t a limiting factor as he was one of the top scoring guards in the entire state. He played with a quick first step, a lot of creativity as a scorer around the rim, and knocked down plenty of shots from behind the arc. His ability to get out in transition, where he was able to make plays for himself and others off the bounce, stood out each time he took the floor. Ballou did a terrific job of moving without the basketball, attacking long closeouts off the bounce, and making good decisions out of ball screens in the half-court.

Ballou, a junior guard at Mascoma Valley, averaged 17.2 points per game this winter, with a single game high of 29. A scoring guard, he’s consistent while being capable of having big nights putting the ball in the basket. He’s comfortable handling the ball, but can also slide off the ball and impresses as a movement scorer, running off screens or cutting to the rim. He can score over size in the paint, knows how to create space to get his jumper off, and can really run the floor in transition. Defensively, he applies pressure on the ball that leads to turnovers and easy run outs.
