Expert Analysis

Kirk will end his high school career at Rupp Arena this week. Regardless of when his season ends, he will go down as one of the best to come through Lyon County in recent memory. A big time scorer who can get to the rim and finish or create for others, Bray is going to be ready to contribute right away in college.

Kirk is having a great Senior season and has become one of the best in the class at getting to the free throw line. A slasher who can get into the paint consistently, Bray is a good enough shooter to keep defenses honest and is a good passer when he gets into the paint. An above average defender and high IQ player, Bray is a versatile and strong guard who has a very bright future.

Bray is a shifty scoring guard who gets to the rim consistently and can knock down threes in bunches. The only thing that could slow Kirk down is that he had an injury this fall that had him in a cast. I’m not sure if he’s healed and back on the court yet but don’t be surprised to see Bray have a little slower start than expected if he’s not all the way back to 100%.

Kirk is a quick, physical combo guard with strong playmaking instincts and the ability to score at all three levels. He averaged 22.1 points and 4.4 rebounds while leading Lyon County’s offense with confidence and control. Explosive off the bounce, tough at the rim, and dangerous in transition, Kirk also brings energy on defense and can guard multiple spots. With championship experience and a high motor, he continues to prove he can lead, create, and compete at a high level.

Bray has been a bigger part of the Lyons offense since he arrived on the scene and this past season he played with the ball in his hands a lot. At the college level, Kirk may even be looked at more as a point guard than a shooting guard but he is capable of playing both. With good size and a strong build that can absorb contact on the way to the rim, Kirk is going to be in the mix for player of the year in the region and should be on the “big board” for every D2/NAIA school in the state and surrounding areas to see this summer.

I was impressed with Kirk’s passing ability, getting assists on Lyon County’s first two buckets and finishing with a game-high six assists. Kirk is a quick guard who can attack downhill if he beats his defender off the dribble and had multiple and-1 layups once he got a head of steam going to the rim. Finishing well in the paint, Kirk went 8/9 from two-point range on Thursday. With his athleticism, improved passing and defense, Kirk impacts the game in a variety of ways, we’ll be looking for him to improve as either a ball handler or 3-point shooter as a senior to take his game to the next level.

Bray has been waiting his turn at Lyon County and as soon as he got an opportunity, he proved that he deserved to move up the rankings. Climbing from 42nd to 19th in the update, Kirk looks primed for a big Junior season after spending the summer showing he can score the ball at a high level on both the AAU and high school levels.
