About Ben
Expert Analysis
Daniel Siehndel | Prep Hoops Scout
Last winter, Ben carved out a key role in the St. Thomas Aquinas rotation, making his mark primarily on the defensive end. A strong on-ball defender and athletic help-side presence, he consistently disrupted opposing offenses with energy and awareness. This season, Renze is expected to take on a much larger role — particularly on the offensive end. A highly accurate three-point shooter, he has a compact, quick release and can heat up in a hurry, needing very little space to get his shot off. Off the ball, he reads and uses screens effectively, applying constant pressure with his deliberate movement. Renze also excels in transition, sprinting the wing and setting his feet in rhythm for catch-and-shoot looks. As one of the team’s expected primary scorers, he’ll be a major piece for St. Thomas Aquinas this winter.

A different kind of playmaker, Renze does a lot of things to impact the game. He can make shots from all levels, and he creates a lot of offense with his defense. He’s a wing who has strength, ball handling ability and is a threat to shoot from deep. Renze is the kind of player who makes everyone around him better.

Aquinas has so much young talent, it will be hard for new guys to carve out playing time. But keep an eye on Renze, a player who is impressing with the KC Spurs this spring. He’s a versatile guard/wing, who is playing a forward role with the Spurs because of the good guards on the team. He can hit from deep, slash to the goal and has good size and maturity to his body. He puts in the effort on defense and the glass, and he makes some nice passes into the paint.
