Davis McCarn | Prep Hoops Scout
Wolf is a strong, physical presence and uses his frame to set effective screens that create advantages for his team. He does a good job slipping to the rim and finding open space for easy finishes around the basket. Wolf shows versatility by stepping out and knocking down the occasional three. On the glass, he competes with toughness and consistently rebounds at a high level. He plays with a physical edge and doesn’t shy away from contact. In fact he appeared to be dealing with some sort of wrist injury and played through it flawlessly. If you need a grind it out tough nosed big Wolf is your guy.

Cape Fear Academy is enjoying an impressive season at 16-10 with sophomore big man Alex Wolf leading the charge at both ends of the floor. Wolf is averaging 13.5 Points, 5.6 Rebounds, 1.1 Assists, 0.6 Steals, and 0.5 Blocks. He’s doing all of that on 56/43/69 splits, showcasing that he’s already got some touch as a young big. He’s only taken 7 from beyond the arc on the season (about 1 every 3 games) but he has made 3 of those attempts. Wolf really understands what he has to do out there defensively and does a great job walling up on the inside to help protect the rim. He’s got real touch around the basket that is showing flashes to beyond the arc, and is progressing really nicely in his development in all areas. Wolf is undoubtedly a young big to track moving forward in NC’s 2028 class.

Wolf did a nice job anchoring his teams defense and providing a physical presence at the rim at both ends of the floor. He did a nice job finishing around the rim, while also showing a great understanding of his teams offensive concepts and missions. Expect Wolf to continue his development in his overall game while providing a real strong interior presence for Cape Fear Academy all season long.

Team Loaded was the the eventual champion of the 2028 gold division and had a few players who could have gone on the list but the one I was most impressed with was the man in the middle Alex Wolf. Wolf stands around 6’7 with a nice overall feel and IQ for the game that helps him have an impact without having a ton of plays run for him. His nice frame and a soft touch that extends out to the 3 point line make him a prospect worth tracking.

Wolf is a big man out of Cape Fear Academy checking in at the No. 6 position at Center and 34th overall in the 2028 rankings debut. He’s shown he can be quite the load in the painted area, averaging 5.7 points per game on 61 percent shooting from the field. He also snagged 3.9 rebounds per game. As he develops his abilities as a defensive anchor, look for his recruitment to really blossom in the class.

Wolf is a sizeable name to get to know in the 2027 class out of Cape Fear Academy. He’s a 6-foot-7 big man who put up 7.2 PPG and 3.9 RPG in his varsity debut for the Eagles this past season. He’s got good mobility and instincts already in the painted area after shooting 53 percent from the floor as a freshman. He’ll be one to keep an eye on with Grassroots North Carolina this spring/summer.

Wolf is an emerging freshman to know in Wilmington. He posted what seemed like his best two games so far this year last week, including 14 points and 7 rebounds in a hard fought win over John Paul II. He’s a mature body who fights hard in the paint and on the glass, winning a lot of battles with pure size already. When the technique and experience continues to come along, he will be fearsome to deal with. Also a solid finisher who can go through contact.
