Tyron Terry | Prep Hoops Scout
Tyron Terry is a veteran basketball coach, trainer, and writer with over 25 years of experience in the game. He currently serves as the Head Girls Basketball Coach at St. Mary’s High School, is an official Nike Basketball Camps operator, and is the Founder and CEO of Mr. Basketball Academy, a youth basketball and leadership organization based in the Upper Midwest.
A standout player at Valley City High School (ND), Terry led the Hi-Liners to back-to-back state tournament appearances, earned All-State honors as both a junior and senior, and was named North Dakota Mr. Basketball in 2000. He continued his playing career at North Dakota State University before transferring to Valley City State University, where he was an All-Conference performer in the Dakota Athletic Conference during the 2004–05 season.
Following his playing career, Terry transitioned into coaching and player development, working extensively with youth and high school athletes across North Dakota and Minnesota. He founded Mr. Basketball Academy in 2019, providing elite basketball training alongside leadership development, financial literacy, and life-skills education. In addition to individual and group training, he has coached multiple youth travel programs and previously served as a Varsity Assistant and JV Head Coach at Spectrum High School.
Beyond the court, Terry is deeply committed to community impact. He is the founder of the Tyshon Terry Foundation, established in honor of his late son, with a mission to address inequality and injustice through education, life skills, and financial literacy.
Terry and his wife, Heidi, are the parents of seven children. His eldest son, Tyrell Terry, was selected 31st overall in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks. Tyron brings a unique perspective as a coach, developer, and parent, blending high-level basketball insight with a passion for empowering young athletes on and off the court.
