Casey Apetrei
Casey Apetrei is beginning his second year as an assistant coach at LSUA following a year as an assistant coach at Frank Phillips Junior College (TX). At LSUA Casey's team posted a 23-4 record in the team's inaugural season winning both the regular season and postseason titles. Previously, he spent two years as a Graduate Assistant at Southern University of Baton Rouge. While at Southern, he helped Head Coach Roman Banks take a team that finished last in RPI the season before, to the 2013 SWAC Tournament Championship and the NCAA tournament. In the tournament, the #16 seed Jaguars lost to #1 ranked Gonzaga in the first round by only 6 points. Prior to Southern, he spent four years as a student assistant for Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana under Head Coach Jim Yarbrough. In addition to his college experience, Coach Casey was also the Head Coach of the Louisiana Team Shockaz (AAU) 17U from 2010 through July 2012. In 2011, his team won the 2011 Louisiana 17U AAU State Championship Tournament. During his time with the program, Coach Casey coached and developed multiple players that went on to play college basketball; many at the NCAA Division I level. Casey has also worked with Pelican Preps, the Louisiana site for Rivals.com. Coach Casey holds a BachelorÕs degree in General Studies from Southeastern Louisiana University with a minor in Athletic Coaching and a Physical Education teaching certificate from Southern University (LA).
