Top Two-Way Players

<p>While many players at this point in the off-season are putting in work or putting up extra shots. There are also players putting that work in in other aspects of their game. Utah does have a disadvantage when it comes to incentives in playing solid half-court defense because there is no shot clock. Teams often skew the data when it comes to defensive minded teams or players because they sit in a zone most of the game. Zone defense doesn’t always translate to the next level. </p> <p>6’7 [player_tooltip player_id="755612" first="Ethan" last="Potter"] of Layton High School not only plays at the defensive end. He usually keeps his counterpart under 11 points a game as well. Layton is usually scoring in the mid 70’s and holding an opposing player to that amount usually leads to success. Another aspect to Ethan’s game that contributes to his success on both ends is that he runs the floor extremely well. A player at his size running up and down the floor often beating guards is impressive in it’s own right. Ethan is a solid Division 1 prospect that continues to improve. Arguably the best player in his class. </p> <p>6’5 [player_tooltip player_id="755611" first="Robert" last="Whaley"] of Bountiful High School might not be known for his absolute defensive dominance, but his size and strength not only intimidate players entering his area, he is athletic enough to block shots and haul in defensive board from all over the court. This past season he held players like Zach Visentin, [player_tooltip player_id="755541" first="Tyler" last="Roberts"], [player_tooltip player_id="755613" first="Cameron" last="Brimhall"] and Parker Buchannan under their respective averages all while outscoring them as well. Roberts ability to hold his ground and move his feet make him an interesting prospect. Inside on the blocks Robert is almost unstoppable. </p> <p>6’8 [player_tooltip player_id="935804" first="Keba" last="Keita"] of American Heritage High School. Having a rim protector is not always a luxury that most teams can say they have. Keba is that player that can defend in the paint and in the perimeter. He improved on his weak-side help as he would come over and block shots. It would be nice to see him play up against other players with his height or other players that could contest him. He is able to simply shoot over everyone. His wingspan and mobility allows him to roam and recover. </p> <p>6’8 [player_tooltip player_id="934041" first="Lyman" last="Simmons"] of Snow Canyon. Lyman is a prospect you can’t miss. He is long and has plenty of time to develop because he is only a freshman. He can score against all types of competition without any plays being run for him. He finds the ball under the basket and gets easy put-backs. He can move his feet on the block against size and although he still has work to do out in the perimeter he is looking comfortable. Lyman is a prospect that will garner attention not only because of his size but because of his ability to play at both ends of the floor. </p>
