Don’t Sleep On This Rising Group C/O 2023

It can be tricky trying to project what a Freshman will do over the course of a 4 year high school career, here’s a group that played well and set themselves on a path for good things to come if they continue to improve their skills. Most of them were starters with their high school teams, others produced, and played quality minutes during the season.

[player_tooltip player_id="950917" first="Colton" last="Dukes"] 6’0 Shooting Guard, Atwater (Atwater CA)

A solid body prospect who can score points at a good rate. He averaged 16.5 ppg while being the top Freshman scorer in the Central California Conference League this past season. Dukes has a good looking three point shot which he made often, he gets his feet set quickly and can score from the wings, and corner. He uses good body control to get defenders on his side to shoot a (stop and pop) pull up jumper. He has good shot selection scoring mostly within the flow of the game. Dukes showed he can get into the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id="950918" first="Tyler" last="Parr"] 6’1 Point Guard, Atwater (Atwater CA)

Parr and Dukes were probably the most productive backcourt Freshman (duo) to come along in a while. There’s a good reason why Dukes was productive, he had a point guard in Parr who enjoyed being a pass first guard. He led the league in assists with 4.6 per game. Parr is an excellent passer with good court vision. He often delivered it to the post with good bounce passess or nicely placed lobs toward the rim. If you move and cut on the wings Parr will find you. He makes long strong up court passes to teammates. He average 7.8 ppg, 4.3 rebs, 2.2 stls. I look forward to watching these two perform next season.

[player_tooltip player_id="950891" first="Brody" last="Collins"] 6’1 Shooting Guard, El Capitan (Merced CA)

Add Collins to the list of standout Freshman in the Central California Conference League. Collins brings energy and hustle to the court. He looks well conditioned to play the whole game at a fast pace. He has good body control, and finishes strong when he gets to the paint, he really looks to take it hard right on the drive. He has a good mid-range jumper and can hit 3’s. He has active feet and works hard to stay in front of his man on defense. 10.2 ppg, a season high of 20 pts.

[player_tooltip player_id="950887" first="Logan" last="Robeson"] 6’2 Guard, Campolindo (Moraga CA)

Robeson a fairly aggressive guard who plays with a certain amount confidence needed to survive as a Freshman on the varsity. Robeson steadily improved as the season progressed and became a key contributor off the bench for Campolindo a team making back to back appearances in State Championship Games. He spots up well with a quick release from 3. He hit five 3’s in a game two times this season. He’ll get a chance to showcase his skills next season.

[player_tooltip player_id="950925" first="Blake" last="Hudson"] 6’0 Point Guard, St Mary’s

Hudson the fast and strong point guard was a key contributor to a St. Mary’s team that made it to the DIII state title game. For a Freshman he showed good patience, quality ball handling skills, and good leadership running the point guard position. He’s an excellent passer, his speed and strength allows him to get into interior of the defense. He’s a tenacious on ball defender. He’s one to watch.

Jaidan Paran 5’10 Point Guard, Valley Christian (San Jose CA)

You have to be tough and a competitor if you’re going to survive as a starting Freshman point guard in the WCAL. Paran took his lumps early on, but settled in and had a good season on a young Valley Christian team expected to improve next season. Paran’s a quick pt guard with solid handles capable of creating for himself and others. As the season progressed he became more patient at the top, and did a solid job of running the team in half-court sets.
