The Best Big Guards in NC!

The Best Big Guards in NC!

The overall look and attributes at the Guard positions has changed over time and we got the chance to see that in NC this season. So who were some of the better “Big Guards” from around the state? Look no further, we’ve got you covered.

Moravian Prep 6’9 Senior [player_tooltip player_id="570516" first="Josh" last="Hall"]: Recently entering his name into the NBA Draft but keeping his college eligibility, he has fans at NC State waiting with their fingers crossed. The #1 player in the state showed his full arsenal throughout the season, playing in big time matchup after matchup and showing everybody why he was the best player in NC. Skillset wise there’s not much that he can’t do on the court and when you added in his height, it makes him a very difficult player to attempt to guard.

West Brunswick HS 6’9 Senior Jaydn Parker: Hidden away from the eyes of many in Shalotte, NC, Parker put together a very impressive season averaging 21 Points, 14 Rebounds and 5 Blocks a night. He made his college choice to attend UNF prior to his senior year beginning and the fans there should be excited about what he can possibly be. He has a nice amount of upside his game and will be a very special player on the next level if he puts the work in. However we are impressed with how far he’s come already since we first got the chance to see him as a Sophomore.

Combine Academy 6’8 Toyaz Solomon: Many media members list him as a Power Forward but we can see him playing the SG/SF slot due to his skillset. He’s a tall prospect but his wingspan makes him look even taller and over time he has learned how to use that wingspan to his advantage. The ability to break down defenders off the dribble, knock down shots from multiple levels and finish above the rim are all things that have colleges excited about his potential. So far he’s picked up offers from Low Major & Mid-Major programs after performing well during his post-grad year at Combine.

Kinston HS Junior 6’7 [player_tooltip player_id="533510" first="Dontrez" last="Styles"]: UNC fans are excited as this young prospect recently gave a verbal commitment to joint the Heels in the class of 2021. Skillset and physique are two of the things that you will notice about him early on as there’s not much that he can’t do on the court. He knocks down shots from all over the court, can bully his way into the paint or use a variety of moves to get past defenders to score inside. On the defensive side of the ball he can defend multiple positions as he has enough size to battle with bigs but is quick enough to defend out on the perimeter.

Durham Academy 6’5 Sophomore MJ Rice: He’s battled his fair share of injuries over his high school career but one thing is for certain, when he’s healthy , he’s one of the most dominant players in the state. He’s naturally strong but has a skillset that had HM programs offering him as a freshman in high school.
