Potential Sleepers in 2022

Potential Sleepers in 2022

The class of 2022 rankings were recently updated and we would normally do another update after spring AAU but that’s on hold for now. Here’s a look at some Sophomores that very well could be underrated or fly under the radar this summer.

[player_tooltip player_id="926893" first="Darien" last="Lewis"], Fern Creek - Often overlooked because of the loaded 2021 class at Creek, Darien is a solid prospect in his own right and is likely to be the man for the Tigers when he gets to his Senior season. While other 2022s start started at Fern Creek left for other schools, Lewis stayed and competed and earned a starting spot as a Sophomore.

[player_tooltip player_id="926900" first="Robby" last="Todd"], Dunbar - 6’7 or so and still growing, Todd is the son of Morehead State women’s coach Greg Todd and has the high basketball IQ that is typical of a coach’s kid. Sometimes playing out of position due to so many front court players at Dunbar, Robby should get a chance to shine next year now that some of those in front of him have graduated. I would have liked to see his development this summer.

[player_tooltip player_id="801613" first="Tyson" last="Barrett"], Frederick Douglass - Potential needs to turn into production for Tyson over the next 6-12 months. He stood out at our 250 Expo last August with his motor and skill level then he disappears for stretches at Douglass. As he continues to bulk up, he has D1 potential with his length and athleticism but Barrett needs to get his motor running every play so that coaches have no choice but to play him.

[player_tooltip player_id="801623" first="Kason" last="Hinson"], Augusta - Hinson is another coach’s son but his long frame, shoulder length hair and relatively calm demeanor cause him to not resemble his dad Jason very much. But you can see the skill level with Kason. He’s able to get into the paint and finish with craftiness and is really good at shooting floaters in the lane. Like most small school players, Hinson needs to prove he can do it against the best in the state to show recruiters that he can get it done.

[player_tooltip player_id="926905" first="Danye" last="Frazier"], Madisonville-North Hopkins - One of the few returning players for the Maroons with any varsity experience, Danye has been a backup point guard for Madisonville but is about to have the ball in his hands a lot in the next two years. If he can find the aggressiveness on both ends and become more of a bulldog floor general, he can be one of the breakout players in western Kentucky next season.

[player_tooltip player_id="926919" first="Brady" last="Bell"], Russell - 14 points and 5 rebounds per game was a solid Sophomore season for Bell but he has intriguing size and athleticism at the wing spot. The question with Bell is when will he get a chance to play competition that is full of players hoping to play at the next level? 16th region teams rarely venture outside the mountains. Hopefully Bell gets a chance to prove himself in AAU at some point.

[player_tooltip player_id="926935" first="Cole" last="Davis"], South Oldham - With [player_tooltip player_id="915107" first="Luke" last="Morrison"] and Seth Johnson off to college, there is a massive scoring void for the Dragons moving into next season. Davis could be the next Johnson. He shined as a shooter last August at our Expo and should be in the mix to be a starter this year for South Oldham. Don’t be surprised if he puts up big numbers next season.

[player_tooltip player_id="926930" first="Chavez" last="Woods"], [player_tooltip player_id="926938" first="Justice" last="Cummins"] and [player_tooltip player_id="926926" first="Chance" last="Garner"], Butler - Some may think it’s odd to group 3 from the same school together but it’s about to be a new era at Butler. With Coach Goodin resigning and a veteran Senior class gone to college, the 2022 class at Butler needs to step up if the Bears are going to continue the program’s winning ways. Woods, Garner and Cummins have all flashed potential at some point and all three need to prove they can compete on the varsity level ASAP for Butler to have a chance to stay among the 6th region elites.
