Fort Lauderdale: Stock Risers

Fort Lauderdale: Stock Risers

In these unprecedented times, avenues for high school athletes to get exposure has become much more difficult. With limited resources, it is ever more apparent to highlight prospects. Therefore, I would like to showcase some individuals in the Fort Lauderdale area. In the shadow of Miami, the FTL region is a hotbed for basketball talent.

Let’s look into the list:

Jameon "JJ" Harris - Northeast

A transfer from West Oaks Academy (Orlando), Harris averaged 12 points, four rebounds and three assists on a loaded Hurricanes team. At 6’5", Harris has good size and can be plugged in at both guard spots. In my observance, he is a confident shooter, specifically from the outside. The 2021 plays with a ton of swag and will put in extra time in the gym to develop his game. Moreover, he plays with a chip on his shoulder and still has more to prove. Already a D-1 talent, I expect recruiting chatter for Harris to flare up as Northeast will be one of the top teams in the region next season. This summer, Harris will run with Team Breakdown. Mississippi, Stetson and James Madison have offered.

[player_tooltip player_id="714889" first="Tristan" last="Goldstein"] - St. Thomas Aquinas

If you are looking for a physical player, Goldstein is a perfect example. The 6’5" forward brought his lacrosse-style background from Cypress Bay onto the court for the Raiders this past season. Specifically, Goldstein will body down players in the post and not back down from anyone. Along with his size, the 2021 is capable off the dribble and hitting an outside shot. Therefore, I have no problem penciling him in as a 15-20 point scorer. With his makeup, Goldstein is the type of player who I believe has a mental toughness edge over others. In a late game situation or in a hostile environment, I don’t see him flinching in the moment. Currently, Goldstein is a free agent on the prep circuit but would be a nice addition to any ball club. Check out his highlight reel by clicking here.

[player_tooltip player_id="953697" first="Caleb" last="Muller"] - Westminster Academy

A stone cold shooter, Muller knocked down well over 100 3-pointers for the Lions this season. Of all players in the county, Muller and Danny Neumann were the best pure shooters I saw on the court. A transfer from Spanish River, Muller averaged 14 points and 4.4 rebounds for Westminster Academy. Specifically, Muller seems to be an elite 3-point shooter from the corner spots. With his instant offense, he is not a kid to leave open. A game-changer.

[player_tooltip player_id="818719" first="Thaddeus" last="Squire"] - Stranahan

A 6’5" forward, Squire performed well on the big stage up in Lakeland. Over the final two games, the 2021 combined for 29 points and 19 rebounds. In addition, Squire’s outside shooting helped the Mighty Dragons to its second-consecutive state title. With a trio of seniors graduating, I am looking at Squire to take charge in a revamped Mighty Dragons offense. Yes, Squire has contributed, but now it is time to take the next step up on the ladder. As a senior, his versatility and leadership should be on full display. If he can capture the moment, I expect his college interest to spark up.

Caelum Ethridge - University

Earning valuable playing time for the Sharks, Ethridge is an intriguing prospect who should morph into a bigger role his junior season. As a sophomore, Ethridge played in 24 games and averaged 3.5 points per contest. Against Mater Lakes Academy, the 6’1" guard showed off his skill by scoring 16 points on 7 for 9 from the field. A crafty player with a good handle, Ethridge is not afraid to take an open shot. Along with [player_tooltip player_id="709227" first="Jaylen" last="Carey"], Ethridge can be an X-factor for a U-School team already with 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="814897" first="Jett" last="Howard"] and 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="712107" first="Taylor" last="Hendricks"]. I see a huge chemistry factor playing with Carey to his benefit.

[player_tooltip player_id="709228" first="Carl" last="Cherenfant"] - Calvary Christian

At 6’4", Cherenfant has the back court size and length to defend multiple positions. The 2023 Cherenfant averaged 6.8 points and 4.2 rebounds for the Eagles this past season. Moreover, Cherenfant has the ability to hit from all levels on the floor and can attack the basket. In the future, I see him working well with D-1 prospect [player_tooltip player_id="814895" first="Gregg" last="Glenn"]. Cherenfant has an offer from Western Kentucky and has received interest from high majors. Check out his highlights here.

For any South Florida Prep Hoops news or information...please contact Michael Costeines @Steins_23 on Instagram or follow him on Twitter @Mungertown_Mike23.
