Ann Arbor’s five best players ranked

The city of Ann Arbor has produced a lot of good basketball players in recent years including Eso Akunne, Whitney Davis, Josh Herbeck, James Kelly, Drew Lowder, Luther Page, and Dante Williams. Akunne, Herbeck, and Page all went to Gabriel Richard before heading to Michigan, Army, and Alabama State, respectively. Lowder (Pioneer) and Williams (Huron) ended up at Holy Cross and Oakland. Here are five players that could follow suit and represent Ann Arbor at the next level.

1. [player_tooltip player_id="611420" first="Julian" last="Lewis"] (Huron): Lewis is rated as the 10th best player in the 2021 class and the 6’5” small forward has a ton of potential. It wouldn’t surprise me if he climbed even higher over the next 12 months as he will likely get even better before and during his senior season. He has the ability to get into the paint at will and has an extremely polished interior game. Lewis is also a very good perimeter defender and has great instincts. He’s the best player in the city right now.

2. [player_tooltip player_id="785005" first="Kabir" last="Bergin"] (Skyline): The senior big man is the 22nd ranked player in the class of 2020 and one of the biggest reasons is his ability to stretch the floor. Even though he has been playing center for the majority of his career, the 6’6” Bergin has guard skills and could easily transition into a forward spot in college. With that said, he is also aggressive on the glass. In a win over Detroit Pershing earlier this year, he totaled 15 rebounds and 12 rebounds.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="789751" first="Mike" last="Robinson"] (Huron): Robinson is rated as the 58th best player in the senior class. Despite being more than 30 spots behind the aforementioned Begin, I think the difference between the two players is razor thin. Robinson, on a good day, is capable of being the best player on Huron and he showed that through his senior campaign as he impacts so many different areas. In a recent 64-54 win over Lincoln, he finished with 12 points, five assists, and five rebounds.

4. [player_tooltip player_id="811116" first="Chris" last="Cayton"] (Skyline): Cayton is one of the best floor generals that I saw this past season. The 5’11” point guard doesn’t make a lot of mistakes and is able to spread the ball around to his teammates, mainly Bergin and Jack Williams. Cayton can also score himself, though, as he has improved his 3-point shot and finishing around the rim. He is the 41st ranked player and the 10th highest rated point guard in the class of 2021.

5. Koebe Moore (Pioneer): Moore is the only unranked player on this list but the senior guard has proven that he can score the ball from almost anywhere on the court. He has a tight handle and quick first step that allows him to get into the paint, where he can finish in a number of ways. In a 52-48 win over Walled Lake Northern earlier this season, Moore finished with a team-high 15 points as he dropped an impressive 10 points in the second quarter alone.
