This year (2020) is unlike any other year. At this point in time, schools are canceled, sporting events are canceled or postponed and it seems as if the world has completely stopped. All decisions have been made for the greater good and for the health of everyone involved, however, one thing that will suffer is the recruitment of unsigned 2020 players. Specifically, the players that have enough talent to play at the next level. In Houston, TX alone, there are hundreds of players who have put in work on the court and in the class room, all culminating to this very important time of the year. With everything going on concerning the coronavirus and its impact on our country, let's not forget about the many kids who, for whatever reason, was relying on the canceled/postponed events to further their playing careers. Moreover, it is important to remember how big Houston actually is, and how difficult it may be to get noticed. There are so many players in the area that several players get lost in, basically, a numbers game. Still, that does not mean that they are not good enough or deserving to play at the next level. With all of the traveling restrictions, self quarantines and other cautionary measures taken by both the players and potential college programs, I compiled a list of some of the unsigned 2020 players in the Houston area. There will definitely be a need for a second article in the near future, but we will start with these prospects.

2020 UNSIGNED PROSPECTS - HOUSTON AREA

Jordan Ivy Curry (@jloadingx10)

LaMarque High School
PG | c/o 2020
3.0 GPA

Jordan led the entire state in scoring this year so it is evident what he does well. Inside, outside, mid range, it doesn't matter. He can, without a doubt, put the ball in the hole. Good athleticism, active defensively and most overlooked aspect is his passing ability.

Bush HS (@BHS_BroncoHoops)
PG | c/o 2020
3.5 GPA | 28 ACT

A true point guard that is an absolute "dawg" defensively. He plays with a high motor when he is in the game and can score beyond the arc. Although he is a bit slight, when he penetrates and gets into the lane, he displays great body control and is able to manipulate his body to finish i traffic or find an open teammate.

Yates HS (@JackYatesHoops)
PG | c/o 2020
3.2 GPA | 1050 SAT

Elijah does everything on the court at a high level. Offensively, he is a three level scorer that picks and chooses when to strike. Which in turn, leaves room in his game to create for his teammates as well. Defensively, he has solid footwork, which allows him to stay in front of ball handlers and active hands which creates turnovers.

[player_tooltip player_id="884595" first="Danny" last="McAdory"] (@DannyMcadory)

6'5 | G/F
Bush HS (@BHS_BroncoHoops)
3.2 GPA

Danny is one of the most athletic players in this class. he is transitioning into being full time guard which makes him even more intriguing. He has a nice turnaround jumper in the mid range, has a high release on his jumper which makes it hard to defend, and can protect the rim defensively. His size is also an important thing to note as he has the height and build to make him a successful player at the next level.

Davion Sargent (@dayhoops)

[embed]https://twitter.com/4YFilms/status/1213486780999249921?s=09[/embed]

Paetow HS (@paetowhoops)
PG | c/o 2020 | 2.8 GPA

Davion is really athletic for his size and position. He is a point guard that can get into the teeth of the defense and finish at the rim. He is also able to score from the perimeter at a pretty high clip and his mid range game is efficient as well. As a teammate, he keeps everyone involved and is able to run a team effectively.

[player_tooltip player_id="884577" first="Stephen" last="Faramade"] (@SFaramade)

[embed]https://twitter.com/4YFilms/status/1203371867865800710?s=09[/embed]

6’9 | F
Bush HS (@BHS_BroncoHoops)
This big man is a refreshing blast from the past with a modern twisted. Stephen can play with his back to the basket with good footwork and the ability to turn over either shoulder. The most noticeable aspects of his game in his ability to finish at the rim with power. Great athleticism, good rebounder and shot blocker. Recruitment took a hit this year due to injury.

Davon Wright (@he2cole_)

6’6 G/F
Cy Springs HS (@cysprings_hoops)
3.0 GPA | 950 SAT
Long, athletic, three level scorer. All of these things are apparent when you watch Davon play. But not to be outdone, Davon rebounds really effectively and has the ability to protect the rim with his length. He is an absolute scorer from anywhere on the court. All of which is backed up by his 2019 - 2020 school year stats. 23 ppg, 8 rpg, 2 bpg.

Derrick Brown III (@DerrickBrown_3)

[embed]https://twitter.com/4YFilms/status/1202263059932286976?s=09[/embed]

Guard c/o 2020
St Pius X HS (@SPXPanthers)
3.6 GPA | 1100 SAT
Derrick can...absolutely, shoot, the ball!! Whether it is catch and shoot or off the dribble, as soon as Derrick releases the ball, everyone expects it to go in. Moreover, he is able to effectively run a team and dictate pace. He can defend the perimeter well and has solid vision. But there it is no secret, this prospect is most effective when he is shooting.

[embed]https://twitter.com/4YFilms/status/1196831787823091714?s=09[/embed]

6’6 F/G
Alief Taylor HS 2020
3.2 GPA 1075 SAT

This prospect's game is matched by his character as a person. Absolutely stellar young man and player that can play inside or outside offensively. Athletic enough to finish strong in traffic but also nimble enough to move in traffic while dribbling on a fast break. Has the ability to step out and drain a three and is strong as an ox in the paint with great footwork.

[player_tooltip player_id="884637" first="Melvin" last="Holloway"] IV (@melvooo4)

[embed]https://twitter.com/4YFilms/status/1201161868565471232?s=09[/embed]

PG | c/o 2020
St Thomas Episcopal (@STE_Saints)
3.0 GPA | 1000 SAT

Mel is a prospect that defenders have to pay attention to when he has the ball in his hands. He has the ability to create for himself and others and his quickness, paired with his shiftiness, makes him fun to watch. He excels at shooting the ball, particularly from deep, but still has excellent vision and passing ability. Defensively he is active and creates a ton of turnovers. A no brainer for any uptempo team looking for a point guard.
