Five teams on upset alert during Saturday’s WIAA regional finals...

(5) Brookfield East at (4) Milwaukee King

Not sure you consider this much of an upset. Brookfield East has only been beaten by two teams this season -- Sussex Hamilton and Brookfield Central -- the two favorites in Division 1. Milwaukee King puts its undefeated record in the line against the best team they’ve faced all year. [player_tooltip player_id="879993" first="Hayden" last="Doyle"] (20.6 ppg) and [player_tooltip player_id="880991" first="Sam" last="McGath"] (16.0 ppg) lead a blue-collar Spartan team that just doesn’t beat themselves.

(6) Oconomowoc at (3) Madison Memorial

They might not have a ton of stars whose names hold weight across the state, but Oconomowoc is a dangerous team. The Raccoons finished third in the Classic Eight Conference and have a dangerous 1-2 punch in Caleb Flaten-Moore (18.0 ppg) and UW-Whitewater commit [player_tooltip player_id="935414" first="Drew" last="Fisher"]. Oconomowoc also has experience against the Big Eight, going 3-1 this season against the conference.

(5) River Falls at (1) Onalaska

Onalaska should be a sizable favorite, but this game just has written "trap" all over it. River Falls is under-seeded and has gone through the grind of a strong Big Rivers Conference. The Wildcats have one of the state’s top shooters in [player_tooltip player_id="804899" first="Zac" last="Johnson"] and plenty of size with 6-foot-7 forward J.T. and [player_tooltip player_id="880013" first="Liam" last="Dougherty"]. Meanwhile, Onalaska’s season has been largely centered around finally getting past La Crosse Central in the sectional semifinals, even though they swept the Red Raiders in the regular season. Will the Hilltoppers get caught looking ahead?

(4) Reedsburg at (1) Stoughton

There’s not lot of separation between the top teams in the Badger North and Badger South Conference this season. Stoughton is coming off a scare at home courtesy of Monona Grove. Reedsburg is 17-6 overall and lost two really tight games to DeForest to finish third in the league. Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id="880983" first="Will" last="Fuhrmann"], who is averaging 16.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game, is going to be tough to take out. Fuhrmann also has an excellent supporting cast as well, led by [player_tooltip player_id="880036" first="Zach" last="Bestor"] and Max Tully.

(3) SJNMA at East Troy (2)

In terms of talent, SJNMA has a sizable advantage on paper. Can the Lancers put it all together against an East Troy team that has some of the best chemistry in the state? Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id="804898" first="Brandin" last="Podziemski"] (27.6 ppg) is one of the state’s top scorers. Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id="694801" first="Gerald" last="Gittens"] (14.9 ppg) is also a top 25 prospect in his class. Junior forward [player_tooltip player_id="879998" first="Brennan" last="Timm"] (15.7 ppg, 12.2 rpg) has quietly had a very productive season as well.
