5 Takeaways: 5A Playoffs

5 Takeaways: 5A Playoffs

Wow! What a competitive day it was. Now the RPI isn't perfect but we have seen some great stuff and great play from teams that likely wouldn't have made it. Provo was impressive as they have length and young talent. Bountiful was all Boi Boi but fell short. Orem's Taft Mitchell is a player that earned a full-ride somewhere.

5 Takeaways:

1.Players that bowed out but that can absolutely ball:

Orem: 6'2 PG Taft Michell

Provo: 6'7 SF Juan Pablo Camargo

Bountiful: 6'5 PF Robert Whaley

This trio almost single handedly willed their team to victory by their individual play. Taft was bombing three's from deep and almost having his way getting to the rim or the free-throw line. Boi Boi was a beast down on the blocks even though he was shorter he was more powerful than any player on the floor. JPC is long and athletic with a smooth touch around the rim. He can step out and his high IQ is evident.

2. Farmington has a young player that might have learned a valuable lesson in Collin Chandler. He is quick, patient and can flat out score. If he can stay on the floor he can help his team in many ways. The sophomore has a bright future. With that said Farmington has a lot of players that can get it done. Mckay Thomsen was an absolute bucket as he nailed 5 three-pointers and had 22 points.

3. Timpview's on ball pressure was too much to handle and if they can keep up that defensive intensity things might fall into place. Jake Wahlin was great as he notched a double-double. Coleman Ford was an absolute floor general dictating the pace and getting everyone in the right spots. Although they are lead by underclassmen they're playing like veterans.

4. Is 2020 the year of the Wildcat? Well, with Jake Howe and Tyler Roberts 20 & 20 performance last night it could be so. Tyler was a beast on the block and in the mid-range attacking and racking up the points. Jake nailed some deep balls and found other ways to score. Their biggest most timely performance cane from Quaid Knell who put up 17 points and 3 massive three-pointers that he team needed in a back and forth game.

5. The Springville Giant wasn't who you would expect. Instead you had a big time performance from Paul Terry who outscored the opposing teams back-court with 21. Paul was able to slice through the defense and make his way to the basket almost at will.

These Final 4 matchups should be classics that can go either way

Woods Cross vs. Springville

Timpview vs, Farmington
