Baltimore Power Rankings: 2/24/20

<p><strong>1. Mount St. Joseph (27-5)</strong></p> <p>This week’s games: BCL Quarterfinal vs Goretti</p> <p>The Gaels earned three tough victories last week with the most impressive showing coming against St. Frances in the MIAA A Conference Championship game. '20 <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/jason-edokpayi/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/jason-edokpayi/">Jason Edokpayi</a></a> had a brilliant first half pacing the Gaels with 18 of his 21 points in the first two quarters. The three-headed monster made up of '20 <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/tyler-brelsford/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/tyler-brelsford/">Tyler Brelsford</a></a>, '21 <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/ausar-crawley/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/ausar-crawley/">Ausar Crawley</a></a> and '21 D'Angelo Stines each finished with 16 points to keep the Gaels out of reach in the second half.</p> <p><strong>2. St. Frances (33-4)</strong></p> <p>This week’s games: BCL Quarterfinal vs Calvert Hall</p> <p>The Panthers experienced a setback in the MIAA A Conference Championship game with a loss. '20 Ace Baldwin did all he could to keep his team within reach as indicated by his 25 points, but St. Frances' hopes on another MIAA/BCL sweep come to a close. They'll set off on their journey to capture a second-straight BCL title this week.</p> <p><strong>3. Poly (17-2)</strong></p> <p>This week’s games: City Championship vs Lake Clifton</p> <p>Poly awaits Lake Clifton in the Baltimore City Championship game. Although Poly will go into it as the heavy favorite, don't expect the Lakers to back down from the challenge. </p> <p><strong>4. Lake Clifton (15-4)</strong></p> <p>This week’s games: vs River Hill</p> <p>The Lakers earned a quality win over a good River Hill team on Senior Night. '20 <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/mike-gray/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/mike-gray/">Mike Gray</a></a> poured in 25 points. Lake Clifton prepares to pull off what would be a huge upset in the city title game against Poly.</p> <p><strong>5. New Town (20-1)</strong></p> <p>This week’s games: @ Catonsville</p> <p>New Town destroyed Catonsville by 51 points last week to finish a perfect 11-0 in divisional play. Up next is a scrappy Woodlawn team who boasts a 16-2 record as the two collide for the Baltimore County title. The Titans come into the game as the favorites and will attempt to be back-to-back champions.</p> <p><strong>6. City (18-2)</strong></p> <p>This week’s games: N/a</p> <p>City won handily over Digital Harbor last week to improve their record to 18-2. They set their eyes to state tournament play as they could get another chance against Poly in the regional semifinal game.</p> <p><strong>7. Archbishop Spalding (18-11)</strong></p> <p>This week’s games: BCL Quarterfinals vs Mount Carmel   </p> <p>After pulling off the upset of no. 1 ranked Gilman in the first round thanks to 2022 wing Cam Whitmore's 34-point performance, the Cavaliers came up short against Mt. St. Joe in the semis. Their talented youth was on full display throughout the two games where 2022 wing <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/cj-scott/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/cj-scott/">CJ Scott</a></a>, 2022 guard Ty Peterson and 2022 guard Jordan Pennick all caught eyes with their performances and toughness. Spalding will take on Mount Carmel in their first-round game of the BCL Playoffs.</p> <p><strong>8. John Carroll (22-11)</strong></p> <p>This week’s games: BCL Quarterfinal vs Loyola</p> <p>The Patriots earned an upset of no. 2 Boys' Latin in the opening round of the MIAA Playoffs last week, but were then matched up against the juggernaut that is St. Frances. 2022 guard <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/tyson-commander/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/tyson-commander/">Tyson Commander</a></a> had two solid outing and 2021 guard <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/jalen-bryant/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/jalen-bryant/">Jalen Bryant</a></a> poured in 23 points in the loss to St. Frances. They'll host Loyola Blakefield in the quarterfinal match up in what should be a tightly contested contest.</p> <p><strong>9. Gilman (17-10)</strong></p> <p>This week’s games: N/A</p> <p>Gilman came up short in their MIAA Quarterfinal bout against a talented, young Spalding team. The final score of 89-85 gives the clear indication of how much offensive firepower was present throughout this one. 2022 guard <a href="https://prephoops.com/player/christian-winborne/"><a href="https://prephoops.com/player/christian-winborne/">Christian Winborne</a></a> once again led the way with 25 points and despite the loss, put a nice bow on what was a tremendous sophomore season. 2020 guard Jordan Foster finished with 21 points and showed admirable determination in the fourth quarter by knocking down two three's and had a number of strong, athletic finishes around the rim. The Hounds future is bright.</p> <p><strong>10. Curley (23-6)</strong></p> <p>This week's games: N/A</p> <p>Curley won the MIAA B Conference Championship as they defeated St. John's Catholic Prep. '20 Caleb Johnson led the Friars with 20 points as '21 Dinari Boykin followed up with 18. They established control from the opening tip and never looked back as they become a team to watch for next season.</p>
