Top Performers: IMG Beach Blast (Day 1)

I made the stop over to the Beach Blast at IMG Academy on Friday. The post grad and prep school tournament was underway on Day with 20 games among four courts and will last through Sunday.

There was a lot of really good competition. Here are my thoughts on some of the top standouts I saw during Friday's action.

Norchad Omeir & Petar Krivokapic (Miami Prep)

In an 8 PM tilt to end the night, Miami Prep made its presence felt against Pennsylvania Rocktop Academy. 6'7" forward Norchad Omeir totaled a ridiculous 38 points along with 28 rebounds in a win over Rocktop. His team put up 114 points in the victory and is now 39-3 on the year. With offers from UMBC, Mercer, Manhattan, Arkansas State, Barry and Lynn, Omeir showed he can do it all inside with his length and strong moves to the cup. His teammate, 6'3" guard Petar Krivokapic recorded 21 points and eight assists in a very solid outing. He currently has offers from FIU, UMBC, Lipscomb, Jacksonville, Arkansas State, Barry and Lynn. His court vision is undeniable as well as his jumper.

Ra'Heim Moss (Spire Institute)

In a high caliber matchup at 6:15 PM, Spire Institute battled with DME Blue. 6'4" guard Ra'Heim Moss, a Toledo commit stood out to me from the jump. A strong young man in his upper and lower body, Moss is built like a football player and it showed on the court. He was able to get by defenders with his power, connect from the mid-range and even hit some very important 3's. Moss has a winner's mindset and he's laser focused every second he's on the floor. Toledo got a steal in him.

Alyn Breed (IMG PG)

Committed to Providence, the last time I saw 6'3" guard Alyn Breed was with McEachern at the City of Palms during the 2018-19 season. He's gotten a little bit stronger and his ability to attack has certainly improved. A seasoned outside shooter, Breed started the 8 PM game against Core4 with a cut to the rack and drew a foul to complete the 3-point play. He is a high IQ player who can mix it up on both ends of the floor and has plenty of burst to his frame.

Keionte Cornelius (Keba Prep)

One of the top defensive threats I saw on the day was 5'11" guard Keionte Cornelius. With a 29-point performance, he was getting in front of passes and stealing them out in transition for buckets. I liked the speed of Cornelius and the pace he played with. He has an offer from Mississippi Valley State and certainly warrants more from other Division I/Division II programs. He can go.

Miguel Miranda (Surge Christian)

15 of the team-high 27 points for 6'5" guard Miguel Miranda came in the first half for Surge Christian. In the win over Montverde Regional, he hit four 3's and was connecting at a high clip all game long, playing the most consistently on his side. A smooth spot up shooter, Miranda is a lengthy guard who is a true offensive asset. A Division I school would be ideal to come on board for him. He told me USC Upstate and IUPUI are keeping close tabs on him. Two other nice outings for Surge were from '5'10" guard Murad Berrian (18 points) as he showed an improved 3-point shot and added patience as a speedy ballhandler while 6'4" guard Eric Lee (16 points) had a bounce-back second half that featured a dunk down the baseline past two defenders in the closing minutes.

Keegan Murray (DME Blue)

For DME Blue, 6'8" Iowa commit Keegan Murray was battling all game long. A very poised and long big man, he has good instincts as a shooter and a driver to the basket. He kept his side in it until very late against Spire Institute. I love the upside that Murray has and if he gets stronger and improves his ballhandling skills a bit, he'll be a very dangerous Big Ten performer in the fall.

Michael Wu (Montverde)

A 2021 6'9" forward Michael Wu performed at a high level against Surge Christian in an early afternoon matchup. A member of the national team at times, he was the alpha for the regional squad to start the weekend. With 21 points, Wu was able to get to the free throw line a lot in the second half. The Chinese native has a knack for making plays and will be a steady contributor when on the floor for Montverde regional for the rest of this event. His upside is clear

Zach Mobley (IMG)

6'3" IMG guard Zach Mobley can certainly shoot the ball, but his ability to assess the next move, be vocal and simply scan the court is a pleasure to watch. His IQ is through the roof and because of that, he'll likely wind up at a Division I or Division II program playing basketball and getting a full ride in the process. Mobley doesn't get rattled, lives to play another day after a missed shot and thrives when around high-level athletes. He simply loves the game.

Trevon Cason (4A)

6'2" guard Trevon Cason, a former key piece to Orlando Edgewater is the top piece for 4A Sports Academy. He proved that on Friday with some really strong efforts. He is a good attacker and a player filled with pure athleticness. Look for a JUCO to take a chance on Cason as he builds muscle and continues to improve his all-around game.
