Stock Risers: 2020

The class of 2020 is coming to a close and while it hasn’t been as good or deep as we would have liked to have seen, some players have really stepped up this season. We are here to breakdown a guy at each position that has moved up in our mind within their respective position.

Alexander Stauffer - 6’8 C 2020 - Northridge (IN) - Committed to Indiana Wesleyan

Stauffer was a guy that we had some concerns about because of his ability to get to what he does well, which is shoot. He’s nimble in small areas but not a guy that is going to come running off screens but because he can shoot it so well, you want to know that he will be able to get him those opportunities. We saw that in July this year and are now seeing that at the high school level. He’s having to be put in those spots but we feel much more comfortable with that skill at the next level. He’s averaging 14.3 ppg and 7.8 rebounds. He needs some more looks from three but the averages are at 38% for a guy that is a true post.

Jylen Petty - 6’7 PF 2020 - South Bend Washington (IN)

The power forward spot in 2020 is pretty weak, especially at the top. The second and third tier are really close and Jylen, for us, has kind of established himself as a legit second tier prospect. Scoring 19.2 ppg all while shooting 38% from three. He’s leading the team in points and their second three-point shooter behind DeMarcus Vaughn. His frame continues to be an asset especially as someone that can play behind the arc when needed and mix it up inside. When looking at other options, Petty has really established his value because of the production he is proving this season. Some have turned potential into production and he’s done that better than a lot of other guys on that list.

Noah Hedrick - 6’4 SF 2020 - Covenant Christian (IN)

Hedrick is a guy that has kind of been in the back of our minds for a while. Does he take that next step to really bust out? He has the size, athleticism, and skill to warrant the question being brought up in a class that really lacks depth and needs some stock risers late to spark interest from college programs. What is the most interesting about Hedrick is that he can do a lot and he’s shown that he can bust out while at the same time having a decently high floor. He’s only scored single-digit points one time this year and had multiple games into the 20’s with a career-high of 48 against Grove City (OH). He’s shooting the ball from three at more than 41% clip, he’s rebounding more than 5 a game, and he’s shown some versatility, whether defensively or his scoring style. He’s averaging more than 2 offensive rebounds a game right now. For a wing that can score as well as he can, that will fit any level right now.

Nick Anderson - 6’2 SG 2020 - Lake Central (IN)

Maybe nobody in the state this year has raised their stock more than Nick Anderson. He’s a guy that looked good during the summer and the overall skill set was solid, but you really didn’t think he would be the guy that was set to breakout. Well, from the first game of the season, he has done nothing other than be one of the best scorers in the state. He’s going to have to eat more steak and potatoes in college but, he’s shown that his ability to separate from defenders to get to his elite skill of shooting, is something that he’s found and exposed against every team this year. He’s averaging 24.1 ppg and has made 45 threes this season making him among the top scoring threats in the state. He cut his position ranking in half for us and nearing the Top 10 Shooting Guards.

Grant Taueg - 6’1 PG 2020 - Cathedral (IN)

Injuries have pretty much plagued Grant for a while now and to be honest, we almost just wrote him off. Not that he wasn’t a good player but the reality was he was slowly developing the first couple years and were just waiting on him to get going and then he missed a bunch of time. But, whatever happened, must have sparked him in some way because he’s night and day different. His energy, shooting, confidence are all as high as I have ever seen him. He’s become that knock-down shooter that does rely on it a lot, but he’s also not missing much. He’s the second leading scorer for Cathedral, scoring 13.0 ppg along with 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He’s shooting 39% from three and even showing that his mid-range game is coming into focus. This could be one of the biggest steals in the class if this is just the start of his breakout.
