1. Hillside Hornets (10-1)
Last Rank: 1st (↔)
The Hillside Hornets took their first loss in Triangle 8 play on Tuesday night, but there’s still room for them to recover. Dr’ake Thompson and Trey Crews are two unsigned prospects that propel this team upwards just as junior Elijah Thomas does as well. They should bounce back against Green Hope on Friday.
2. Panther Creek Catamounts (8-3)
Last Rank: 4th (↑2)
The Catamounts have won three straight games since the last edition of power rankings and continue to trend in an upward direction led by Daylen Berry, Armon Muldrew, Dylan Drinkwater and David Butners. They haven’t lost a conference game since falling to Hillside back on Jan. 10 and look like the team to beat at a key time in the season. Panther Creek will host Athens Drive on Friday.
3. Riverside-Durham Pirates (8-3)
Last Rank: 2nd (↓1)
The Pirates have gone 2-1 since the last edition of rankings, seeing Panther Creek move ahead of them given their latest streak. Riverside-Durham fell at home to Hillside this past Friday 67-45 and on Tuesday night, the Catamounts defeated Hillside at home, making the move an inevitable one. They got back in the win column with a win over Athens Drive on Tuesday night. They’ll need to finish strong with conference tournament play coming up.
4. Green Hope Falcons (7-4)
Last Rank: 3rd (↓1)
The Green Hope Falcons have gone 1-2 since the last edition of power rankings with losses to Hillside and Panther Creek. They fell on Monday to the Hornets. Reese Evans will look for more assistance from Broderick Ellis Jr., who finished with nine points and 12 rebounds against Hillside. They got a 61-35 win over Green Level on Tuesday for their seventh conference victory. They’re another team that needs to finish the conference slate strong.
5. Jordan Falcons (6-5)
Last Rank: 5th (↔)
Jordan High School is still on the good side of the Triangle 8 Conference standings with a 6-5 record. They’ve remained steady since winning their last two games over Green Level and Cary. Senior forward Joaquin Davis and company are a competitive bunch with a lot left in the tank.
6. Athens Drive Jaguars (3-8)
Last Rank: 6th (↔)
The Athens Drive Jaguars are 1-2 since the last release of Triangle 8 Power Rankings, but they’re right on the doorstep when it comes to the final score. They’ve lost their last two games by a combined total of eight points. A.J. Thompson will need to lead the charge in finishing games for this group. They should play spoiler come conference tournament play.
7. Cary Imps (2-9)
Last Rank: 7th (↔)
The Cary Imps have lost three straight games in Triangle 8 action since the last edition of power rankings. Heading into their final three games of the regular season With Green Level and Hillside coming up, something has to give for this group.
8. Green Level Gators (0-10)
Last Rank: 8th (↔)
The Green Level Gators are still the only winless team left in the conference as the schedule winds down. With three games left on the schedule, they’ll look to get their first official win in Triangle 8 conference play before the 2019-20 season is up.
