This year was no different and actually brought 2021 Ike Cornish back to Maryland due to the fact he transferred to Legacy Early in South Carolina.
“I moved down here because I was at Dulaney and we were doing good, we were playing against decent competition but I wanted to play against nationally ranked schools and play a national schedule and show that I can play on the highest level there is on high school and I thought the move down here would prepare me really well for college.”
In the game I evaluated of him he won MVP honors after finishing with 19 points and shooting 50% from the field. He wanted to make sure he put on a good performance in his homecoming and especially at an event of this nature.
“I actually never played in this event before but I always heard about it and since I grew up in Maryland, it is always great to come back home.”
When asked to describe his game, he said, “I really feel like I shoot the ball well and last year I didn’t shoot it as well so this year I am just really taking advantage of my shot because a lot of people know I can go to the hoop with my length and my ability to slash but this year I feel like I can shoot when the defenders back up and I can tell defenses are respecting my shot more.”
During the trip, he was able to take an unofficial visit to Maryland and watch them play Iowa.
“That was a great win against Iowa. Anthony Cowan had his career high with 31 I think. Iowa was a good test, they are good down low and some good shooters. I really see where I can fit in at Maryland, they played hard the whole game and I went into the locker room at the end of the game and I really enjoyed the vibe in there and it was great.”
Virginia Tech is a school that has a staff with heavy connections to the DMV area and that is a school pursuing, Cornish.
“They came down to Legacy a couple of times and they recruited my point guard, Jacobi Wright a little bit who is also having a really good year. They have been showing a lot of interest since like 9th grade but now since I am older and at a higher level, they talk to me a little more and see me a little more.”
The school that could be the one to watch out for is Xavier after his comments.
“They saw me play in Atlanta and they have basically been talking to me everyday since then. We went to a tournament near Xavier and during that trip I visited with the staff where they offered me. They have probably been talking to me everyday and are probably recruiting me the hardest right now.”
