Springfield Parkview and Nixa squared off on Saturday night in the championship game of the Nixa Invitational Tournament. The two teams met in December with Nixa taking a 51-45 victory.

The rematches proved to be doubly nice for Parkview in gaining a 54-50 victory. Not only did the Vikings gain a little revenge, but they walked away with the first place trophy for winning the tournament.

Here is a look at the “Best Of” from the Parkview-Nixa game.

Best Player: Dontae Taylor (Parkview) - The athletic 6’2 guard scored a game-High 18 points to lead the Vikings to the victory. His aggressive hard-driving style set the tone as Parkview got off to a big lead. When Nixa rallied to tie the game in the third quarter, he responded with three buckets to restore order. He attacked the basket and was also a factor on the offensive boards.

Best Senior: Dontae Taylor (Parkview) - See above

Best Junior: Jason Jones (Nixa) - The 6’6 forward scored a team high 16 points and also did an excellent job on the boards. He really kept the Eagles in the game with 12 first half points. His 15 foot jumper from the high post was cash money plus he could drive the ball effectively. He was also a very capable passer from the high post area.

Best Sophomore: Colin Ruffin (Nixa) - The 6’1” lefty is a smooth operator who did most of his damage in the third quarter when he sparked a big rally from a double-digit deficit. He has nice handles and he did a good job of changing speeds to get to the rim. He also had some quick hands on defense.

Best Freshman: Kevin Parker Jr (Parkview) and Kael Combs (Nixa) - Both youngsters had some limited success but their potential was evident. The 6’0 Parker made a 3-pointer and handled the ball with confidence. Combs is an athletic combo guard with playmaking ability with and without the ball.

Best Shooter: Nakal Johnson (Parkview) - The 6’0 2020 scored 15 points, with nine of them coming on his three of five shooting from long distance. In a game full of excellent perimeter shooters, he stood out from the pack on this day.

Best Shot Blocker: Trevon Brazile (Parkview) - The 6’7” 2021 forward blocked a game high three shots. He was a problem with his combination of athleticism and

Best Playmaker: Josh Mason (Nixa) - The 6’2 2020 guard was held to 10 points, but he made a big impact with his ball handling and passing. He displayed some nice handles and delivered some excellent passes with his court vision.

Best College Prospect: Trevon Brazile (Parkview) - The talented 6’7 2021 is a versatile athlete who is just starting to scratch the surface of his vast potential. His length and athleticism is evident as a shot blocker, but he is also a skilled offensive player who can score on the drive and make 3-pointers. Stay tuned on this one.

Best Role Player: Anthony Green (Parkview) - The 6’4 2021 forward was a big factor in the game with his defensive rebounding and energy off the bench.
