With many prospects from the state already making their decision on where they will continue their academic and athletic careers, there are many guys on all levels yet to make a decision. Here is a list of guards in the state who still have a huge decision to make. Antwan Burnett, 6'5 SG, Sidney Lanier: With his grades improving to match his talent on the court it looks as if "AB" will be taking his talents to the major Division 1 level. His recruitment has taken somewhat of a hit because some were concerned if he would make the mark. Well from all the information that I'm gathering it looks as if majors need to start taking another look at this prospect. After leaving the state and moving to Florida only to return derailed most of his senior season, but since returning in mid-December he has been very impressive averaging 24 points 12 rebounds and 5 assist a game. His improved ability to play the point guard position at times has vastly improved his stock. If he stays on track in the classroom his aspirations of playing big-time college basketball next season is looking more and more like a real possibility. Interest: Troy, Iowa State, Murray State, UAB, and South Alabama just to name a few. Kameron Woods, 5'11 PG, Pinson Valley: Some questioned his motor at times but what they can't question is his willingness to take over and win games. With big-time games so far this season including a few 50+ point games and some 40 burgers, his stock has risen. He can get any shot he wants when he wants and has improved at getting his teammates involved and placing them in positions to be successful. He has won 3 straight state titles (2 at Midfield and 1 at Pinson Valley) and is looking to make it 4 in a row as the Indians are currently ranked #1 in Class 6A as we get to the thick of area play. With several low to mid-major offers, the crystal ball has him as a strong lean to sign with the Trojans of Troy. De'Marquiese Miles, 6'1 PG, Lee-Montgomery: He has vastly improved his stock here in his senior season with solid and consistent play on a loaded Lee-Montgomery team who is currently undefeated and ranked 2nd in the Class of 7A behind Mountain Brook. He has a long list of offers and interests ranging from Juco to D2, but with his play so far this year the low to mid-major D1 level is looking like more of a fit for this athletic PG. His ability to guard and run a team becomes more and more evident by the game. With his announcement not expected until after the season look for these teams to be heavy in the mix to land the one, they call "Duke." FIU, Coastal Carolina, Wyoming, Elon, Troy, and Appalachian State. Mike Murry, 6'1 CG, Carver-Montgomery: Now some question what his actual level will be in college because of his size and skillset, but whatever that level ends up being college basketball is definitely in his future. He would probably be more suited on the D2, NAIA, or Juco level (with improvement could make it to the D1 level if he goes Juco) whatever he chooses he will undoubtedly play college basketball. His explosiveness and athletic ability are what make him a next-level player. He has the tools to be a lockdown perimeter defender and has a real nack to score the basketball on all 3 levels including high above the rim. Interest: DII: Catawba (NC) and Lee University NAIA: Kentucky Christian Tony Toney, 6'2 CG, Mae Jemison: This is one of the more interesting prospects in the class as he has burst onto the scene in his senior season. He has improved his stock immensely since the beginning of the season and should get a boost in his interest and offers. Kind of like the aforementioned Murry his size and skill-set are where the question lies on what his level is. He is an explosive athlete that does have the ability to handle point guard duties at times. His relentless style of play is what could push him over the edge, for every coach loves a guy who packs his lunch pale and hard hat and just goes to work. He shoots it well from outside with range and is a very good rebounder for his position. His recruitment has been rather light so far last we spoke, but look for it to ramp up if the #2 ranked Jaguars in class 6A continue to win basketball games with him leading the way. Interest: Sam Youngblood, 6'2 CG, McAdory: A lethal shooter will be a great fit on the DII level. With an offer on the table from Francis Marion this prospect has the frame and game to step right in and make an impact for the Patriot's if he chooses to make that his destination next season. He has improved over the past year with his ball-handling and willingness to put the ball on the floor against pressure. His lateral quickness has also improved which has made him more efficient as a player. With his skill-set, he should make some DII program very happy come next season. Evan Carter, 6'0 PG, Brew Tech: A lightning-quick lefty that has all the tools in his bag to be a college basketball player. He can shoot it with range, consistently beat his defender off the dribble, and get to the rim and finish with contact. He is also a gifted passer and playmaker which I think will only improve once those around him improve much like most players do when their level is increased. In the right fit, he could play on the Division 1 level because of his strength and basketball IQ. With offers from DII Johnson C Smith and Junior College Snead State, he has since gained some interest from Division 1 programs Rice, VMI, and Maine. Look for him to make his decision not long after the season has ended. Malik Stinson, 6'2 SG, Sidney Lanier: A shooter who has flown under the radar over the last 2 seasons. With very good showings in some big-time games over the last few months, he has begun to get some interest from the Juco and DII levels. He has a unique ability to get to the basket and finish with an array of unorthodox finishes, but his most prominent skill is his ability to shoot the ball off the catch from deep. He does possess the skill to put the ball on the floor and score in the mid-range on a consistent basis. He has vastly improved his on-ball defense and has turned himself into a very very good defender. He plays passing lanes well and has a very high basketball IQ. Any coach that inks him on the dotted line will have to increase his strength, but he will be able to pick up what that coach wants out of him in a fairly short amount of time. Interest: Bevill State (Juco) and UAH (DII).
