Key Players:
Evan Nelson 6’2 2020 G
Jordan Gainey 6’4 2020 G
Grant Weitman 6’3 2020 F
#2 St. Mary’s 5-1
St. Mary’s comes in at #2 once again. Much like Salpointe Catholic, I expect St. Mary’s to stay in this spot throughout the season. Their only loss this season came against Desert Vista, who is one of the top teams in 6A and in the state. St. Mary’s has a bright future due to all their young talent.
Key Players:
Bear Cherry 6’9 2022 F
Garrison Phelps 6’4 2022 G/F
#3 Catalina Foothills 9-0
Catalina Foothills comes in at #3. Most readers may see this and see their record and question why they aren’t higher than St. Mary’s. In short terms, I believe that St. Mary’s is the better team and they’ve played far more talented teams. Catalina Foothills hasn’t played anyone yet that is near the level of talent that St. Mary’s has faced.
Key Players:
Hayden Moser 6’1 2020 G
Nigel Wilson 6’5 2020 F
#4 Buckeye 10-1
Buckeye has done a lot better than I expected and big props to them. They have beaten solid teams such as Chinle and Arcadia. Their only loss came to Skyline, who is one of the best teams in 6A and state overall. Very excited to see what Buckeye can do for the rest of the season.
Key Players:
Tay Boothman 6’1 2020 G
Matthew Henry-Harrison 5’10 2023 G
#5 Desert Edge 9-0
Desert Edge has gotten off to a really hot start, going undefeated. They haven’t really played anyone super challenging yet but I felt that their undefeated season was note worthy enough to include them in the top 5. We’ll have to wait and see if Desert Edge can keep up this level of play throughout the season.
