The Standouts: P.K. Yonge at Gainesville

<p>This is the type of game that let’s you know who will really take-off in the ‘Ville. In-city rivalries can bring out the DOG in a hooper. Between Gainesville High and P.K. Yonge, there was definitely some barking.</p> <p>The ‘Canes beat the Blue Wave 65-63 behind a trio that combined for 80% of the team’s scoring. P.K. had three whom scored in double-digits, as well. Check out the names!</p> <p><br /> <strong>Willie Williams III - Gainesville 2020:</strong> The senior guard has gotten more aggressive in his all-around play, this year. Willie is hitting his three-ball with confidence, and has got real speed with the ball in his hands on the fast-break. His midrange J has improved, also. He did a great job sharing the ball and not forcing the game, while celebrating teammates when they executed. Willie led the game with 20 points.</p> <p><br /> <strong>Adrian Bloodworth - P.K. Yonge 2021:</strong> Blood’s motor is something worth seeing. I mean, he just doesn’t take plays off. On offense, he’s taking the ball to the rim and hitting from outside. Defensively, Blood’s one of the scrappiest. One key example: the steal he forced after offering 10 seconds of pressure-D at mid-court. With just seconds left in the game, it provided an extra chance. Love his rebounding effort, albeit a shorter guard. But, he’s not short of hustle. Adrian earned a team-high 19 points.</p> <p><br /> <strong>Darius Boyd - Gainesville 2022:</strong> In the second half, it seemed like they couldn’t stop him. But, the first was a test. He went scoreless in the entire half, and came out after the break, unfazed. Boyd was EATING in the paint, whether battling inside for the close-up lay, or rising for a tough floater. He finished with 17 points. His handle will develop over time &amp; effort, though he’s proving he can attack you from the wing &amp; head to the rack. He’s built like he plays the four, but can still push the break and be a facilitator.</p> <p><br /> <strong>Danny Dawson - P.K. Yonge 2020:</strong> Danny is going to be super key for the Wave, going forth. He’s the team’s X-Factor. The senior worked down low for his layups and putbacks. He’s a solid offensive rebounder if already near the rim. Danny’s quick to share the rock with his teammates. He’ll chase you down for the steal. Dawson’s another P.K. guy will not turn off the motor. He finished with 12 points on the night.</p> <p><br /> <strong>Rodjericus Williams - Gainesville 2020:</strong> The senior guard helped GHS get out in-front early with a couple of treys. If you’re headed down-court in-transition, Rod’s a guy you can trust to finish the play with a bucket. Loved his effort with the chase-down blocks, too. Rod sprinted the floor to catch a Blue Waver about to rise for the lay, and swatted the rock away with force. He left the game with 15 points.</p> <p><br /> <strong>Deontae Mavin - P.K. Yonge 2020:</strong> Mavin is breaking out of his shell with the ball in his hands, and making plays all over the floor. He took contact on the drive and still was able to hit some tough floaters through the lane. Even while drawing the foul, Mavin can control his frame and finish for the and-one. In the first half, he knocked down a couple threes to keep the Wave in it. He walked off with 12 points.</p>
