Southern Door at Denmark Standouts

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Denmark outlasted Southern Door tonight, clawing back from an early hole to claim a 65-62 victory. </span></p> <p>The non-conference tilt started as a rather lopsided affair with Door displaying a more prepared roster out of the gates. But their early run was soon countered by Denmark forward Donovan Short, who began demanding more touches after a quiet first ten minutes. With his teammates forcing him the ball, Short could create offense freely, and in turn, Denmark would remain in the drivers seat throughout the final stretch.</p> <p>Below is a list of deserving standouts from a memorable non-conference matchup. </p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Donovan Short - Denmark - 2022: If the introduction didn't give it away, Short is tonight's super-standout.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He possesses all the skills to carve out a successful collegiate career. His off-ball movement and effort on the glass stood out early on, but throughout the second half, his passing, isolation skills and honed three-point stroke took over the flow and score of the game. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Short would finish with 33 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists. </span>If that's not a special performance, I'm not sure what is.</p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Alex Daoust - Southern Door - 2021: The junior put himself on the front lines right from the tip-off. In the first handful of possessions, Daoust infiltrated the lane with swift spin moves then drilled multiple shots from beyond the arc. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">His passing and feel for running an offense paired with his high-level scoring will no doubt garner praise from scouts. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There's a good chance he shoots up the junior class rankings sooner rather than later.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ryan Claflin - Southern Door - 2020: </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Claflin tried on a few different hats tonight – playing tough defense, using his size to create down low, blocking shots. Each one worked, but the prevailing takeaway for the UW-Green Bay commit was his jumper, both the accuracy of it and how often he let it fly. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Possibly the most telling part was that his coach turned to him down the stretch for three-point shooting. He connected on a contested, hardly-makeable shot with 30 seconds left, and also drilled a few deep shots in the first half.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Michael Rabas - Denmark - 2020</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Rabas isn’t the gaudy talent the first three are, but he got it done tonight by slipping through cracks in the defense for position down low. His strength, too, helped him capitalize on rebounds and finishes when he got position. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Nick Baudhuin - Southern Door - 2021</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Tonight, Baudhuin made the effort plays no one else would. His strength and unwavering aggressiveness led to a handful of rebounds and smart shots for himself and teammates. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hayden Konkol - Denmark - 2022</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Konkol is a lengthy, pure scorer. That combination resonated with me, especially after the sophomore took over mid-way through the first half, driving to the hoop and drawing contact on multiple possessions.</span></p>
