Players To Watch This Winter That Offer Size And Skill

The 2022 class will begin to really take shape this year as they’re now sophomores. We will see a ton of new faces as some get their first bit of varsity ball and we will watch how others grow from one year to the next. In this article we take a look at sophomores who offer size and skill, Let's get to it! Brock Makrancy (2022) | 6-5 SF | Findlay Makrancy is a target to be a riser this winter if he continues to show his well rounded offensive game. Makrancy is a spot up shooter that has a smooth release. Also, the sophomore is getting better off the bounce. Handle is getting tighter and has the ability to drive to the rack as well as get the defender off balance on a step back. Has the length to make it tough for opposing wings as well. Tayshaun Mayfield (2022) | 6-3 F | Hilliard Bradley Mayfield is a multi sport athlete that gets it done on the hardwood. Stronger than most sophomores and works harder as well. Will do a lot of the small things for Bradley this season. Strong defender that doesn’t get pushed around, active shot blocker. The 6-3 forward crashes the boards on both ends and secures put backs. Jainaz Cameron (2021) | 6-5 PF | London Cameron is a player that likes to out muscle the opposition. A good duo along with Trey Woodyard, the junior handles everything inside. Cameron works well as a slasher without the ball, or driving to the cup. The forward is an active rebounder on both ends and should see a big season. Cooper Davis (2022) | 6-4 WG | Reynoldsburg Davis is a player that could eventually see a big boost in recruitment. Projected as a shooting guard at the next level, potentially small forward if continues to grow, already possesses a long frame that really helps his game. Dead-eye shooter off the catch, you can’t allow any space when guarding Davis because he makes you pay. Constantly moves without the ball, getting around screens and is always ready to shoot. Underrated off the bounce game, absorbs contact and gets his bucket. Drew Panning (2022) | 6-4 W | Westland Westland should be improved this winter with a good mix of upper class and under class players. Panning is currently 6-4, but looks longer as he is quite lengthy. The sophomore uses that length to protect the paint and stopping slashers. Panning can get out on the fast break and finish it strong, through contact. Could see him end up more of a wing forward rather than a wing guard as he doesn’t look like he’s done growing. We expect to see Panning much more this winter.
